  • Adeleke Tells IGP to Arrest Anyone Breaking the Law, ‘Even If It Is My Son’

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the Inspector-General of Police to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in criminal activities in the state, saying no one, including members of his family, should be spared.

Adeleke made the declaration on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Tunji Disu, at the Government House in Osogbo ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

    Governor demands impartial policing

Speaking during the meeting, Adeleke said maintaining peace in Osun State remains his administration’s top priority and urged security agencies to carry out their duties without fear or favour.

“If you see any of my people that committed a crime, arrest them. All we want is peace in Osun State,” the governor said.

He added that even if his own son was found committing an offence, he should be arrested, charged and made to face the law.

“I don’t condone criminality. All I want is peace in my state and not bias policing. Osun deserves peace,” he said.

IGP assures residents of peaceful election

The visit centred on security preparations ahead of the governorship election, with the police chief assuring the governor that the Nigeria Police Force would remain professional, neutral and apolitical throughout the electoral process.

Disu also reaffirmed the commitment of the police to tackling political violence, thuggery and other security threats before, during and after the election.

The meeting comes amid heightened security concerns in Osun State following recent incidents of political violence, including the killing of a teenage boy in Ilobu, for which suspects have already been arrested.

The governor’s remarks have attracted attention as political activities intensify ahead of the governorship poll, with authorities promising stricter enforcement of law and order across the state.

  • Adeleke Endorses Tinubu for 2027, Says ‘He Is Our Father, Leader’

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has openly endorsed President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the president as “our father and leader” while praising ongoing federal projects in the state.

Adeleke made the declaration after inspecting ongoing construction work on the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa expressway, where he commended the Federal Government for the pace and quality of work on the road project.

    Adeleke Backs Tinubu

Speaking during the inspection, the governor said his support for Tinubu was both a moral and development-driven decision that would benefit Osun State and the Yoruba people.

“As governor of the ancestral birthplace of Mr President, how can I have my own in the saddle and think twice before embracing him?” Adeleke said.

He described Tinubu as “our own son, father, and leader,” adding that he and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu were privileged to witness a Yoruba leader occupying Nigeria’s highest office.

    Praise for Federal Projects

Adeleke stated that the reconstruction of the Ibadan-Ile Ife-Ilesa road would improve connectivity across major Osun communities and support economic activities in the region.

The governor also praised Tinubu for approving other road projects, including the Ibadan-Iwo-Osogbo and Gbongan-Akoda highways.

According to him, his administration has equally invested heavily in infrastructure since assuming office in 2022, including the renovation of several federal roads and reconstruction of more than 300 kilometres of state roads.

He expressed optimism that the Federal Government would compensate Osun State for roads rehabilitated by the state government.

    Comments on Democracy

Adeleke further stated that his administration remained committed to free and fair elections in Osun State, while commending Tinubu for supporting democratic values.

“On August 15, democracy will win alongside God and the people,” he said.

“The President has consistently advocated for free and fair elections.”

The governor added that all lawful means would be deployed to guarantee credible elections in the state.

His endorsement comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections and is expected to generate fresh reactions across Nigeria’s political space.

  • Osun Govt, Accord Raise Alarm Over Alleged Police Plot Ahead Of Governorship Election

The Osun State Government and the leadership of the Accord Party have accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of allegedly deploying a special squad to target opposition figures ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The allegation was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who claimed that the unit was created to carry out operations against Accord Party leaders and some government officials.

    Govt Alleges “Decapitation Operation”

According to the statement, the alleged squad is being led by CSP Moses Lahor.

“We have a reliable report that the Inspector General of Police has created and dispatched a special squad under CSP Moses Lahor for a decapitation operation against Accord leaders,” the statement alleged.

The government further claimed that the operation involved plans for “selective commando-like arrests” of opposition figures.

It alleged that the planned arrests were not intended for investigation purposes but for what it described as “possible summary execution.”

    Allegations Against APC Candidate

The statement also accused the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, of allegedly providing logistical support to the squad.

According to the government, meetings were allegedly held between the squad and the APC candidate ahead of the operation.

“The APC candidate has availed the alleged squad two Toyota 18-seater buses and one Sienna car for their operations,” the statement claimed.

The government further alleged that the operation was being coordinated without the knowledge of the Osun State Commissioner of Police.

    Concerns Over Officer’s Past Conduct

The statement also claimed that the squad leader had previously been posted out of Osun State following alleged misconduct linked to a shooting incident involving a suspected member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

According to the government, the officer was later redeployed to another police unit as part of what it described as “operational punishment.”

    Call For Intervention

The Osun government and Accord Party called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the international community to intervene over the alleged development.

“We urge the Inspector General of Police to ensure that his men are not used to carry out unlawful operations in Osun State,” the statement added.

They also warned against any attempt to disrupt the election process, insisting that residents of the state remained aware of what they described as political plots ahead of the poll.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued any official response to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.

  • Adeleke Deposes Osun Monarch Jailed in US Over Fraud Conviction

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has officially deposed the Apetu of Ipetumodu, Oba Joseph Oloyede, following his conviction and imprisonment in the United States over fraud-related offences.

The monarch was convicted by a US District Court in the Northern District of Ohio on August 26, 2025, after pleading guilty to tax fraud charges and was subsequently sentenced to 56 months in prison.

Adeleke acts after receiving court judgement

The Osun State Government confirmed the monarch’s removal in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.

According to the statement, the decision followed the receipt of the Certified True Copy of the judgement delivered by the Ohio court.

“The governor’s decision followed the receipt of the Certified True Copy of the Ohio court judgement which convicted the monarch,” the statement read.

The government explained that the Osun State Executive Council had earlier directed the Ministry of Local Government to obtain the certified judgement before taking official action.

    Royal stool declared vacant

Governor Adeleke stated that the deposition became necessary to protect the integrity and honour of the traditional institution.

“In the Deposition Order signed by His Excellency on 7th May, 2026, the action was predicated on the need to maintain peace, order and good government as well as preserve the honour and integrity of the royal stool,” the statement added.

The government also said the monarch’s conviction and public trial had brought the traditional stool into disrepute.

“The fraudulent conduct of Oba Joseph Oloyede as found by the US court and which he pleaded guilty to and his public trial and conviction have brought the institution of Obaship and the stool of Apetumodu of Ipetumodu to disrepute and public odium,” the statement noted.

Authorities confirmed that the stool of the Apetu of Ipetumodu has now been declared vacant pending the selection of a new monarch.

    Residents had earlier protested

The development follows earlier protests in Ipetumodu, where residents reportedly demanded the monarch’s removal after news of his conviction surfaced online.

Governor Adeleke appealed to indigenes of the community to remain peaceful and law-abiding as the process of selecting a new traditional ruler begins.
