Residents in Osun State have been captured chanting “Okpebholo ole” as a convoy reportedly carrying APC governors and other party figures left the state early Sunday, August 16, 2026, amid Governor Ademola Adeleke’s strong lead in provisional election results.
A video shared on X by users including Morris Monye showed a nighttime crowd filming a convoy as vehicles moved away, with some residents heard chanting the phrase directed at Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo.
Video Circulates Online
The footage, which circulated around 2:09 a.m. in some versions, shows vehicle headlights and residents gathered along a road as the convoy moves through the area.
The accompanying posts claimed APC governors were leaving Osun following the party’s poor showing in the governorship election. However, the video does not independently confirm the identities of all people in the convoy or the exact location where it was recorded.
Adeleke Maintains Lead
The development followed Saturday’s Osun governorship election, where incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party maintained a lead over APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji in provisional results.
As of the early hours of Sunday, results uploaded to the INEC Result Viewing Portal and tracked by independent aggregators showed Adeleke with roughly 50–52 per cent of counted votes, while Oyebamiji had about 43–45 per cent. The African Democratic Congress candidate, Najeem Salaam, remained a distant third.
The figures were still provisional as local government results were being collated at the state level, with INEC yet to make the final declaration.
Okpebholo’s Campaign Comments
Okpebholo had campaigned for Oyebamiji in Osun before the election and repeatedly criticised Adeleke’s public dancing.
At an APC campaign rally, he mocked the governor over his dancing and argued that it had distracted from governance. He also urged voters to collect money offered by opponents but vote for the APC candidate.
The comments attracted criticism, including from Afrobeats singer Davido, who is Adeleke’s nephew and had openly supported his uncle’s re-election bid.
Election Results Still Await Final Declaration
The chanting video has generated mixed reactions online, with some users describing it as a sign of public rejection of the APC while others questioned whether the footage should be treated as representative of Osun voters generally.
The final outcome of the Osun governorship election remains subject to the completion of collation and formal declaration by INEC.
