  • Okpebholo Reaffirms Promise of 2.5 Million Votes for Tinubu, Cites Edo Projects

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has restated his commitment to delivering 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, saying the administration’s ongoing infrastructure projects will earn the support of the people.

The governor made the declaration on Friday during an inspection of the ongoing reconstruction of the Jattu Market in Etsako West Local Government Area.

Governor links votes to development projects

Okpebholo said his administration’s investments in infrastructure were already improving the lives of residents and would translate into massive support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next general election.

“People wonder how we will get the 2.5 million votes, but they forget that this government is doing a lot for Edo people. Our votes will come from the numerous projects we have embarked upon for the benefit of our people,” he said.

He described the Jattu Market as a modern commercial facility that would boost trade and economic activities in Edo North and neighbouring communities.

“We are not just building a market but a modern standard market for our people in Edo North, Edo State, as well as Nigerians who will benefit from this project when completed,” the governor added.

    Appeal to residents

In a video from the event that has circulated widely online, Okpebholo urged residents to mobilise support for President Tinubu.

“When you get home, tell your mother, your child, and your boyfriends and your husband that the governor has promised Asiwaju 2.5 million votes,” he said.

The statement has generated reactions on social media, with some questioning the feasibility of the target, while others argued that ongoing development projects could strengthen the APC’s support base.

    APC leaders commend projects

The inspection was attended by the Minister of Regional Development, Abubakar Momoh, former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole, Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly Blessing Agbebaku and other APC leaders.

Momoh praised the reconstruction of the Jattu Market, describing it as an important economic project made possible through the collaboration between the federal and state governments.

Oshiomhole also commended the initiative, saying the market’s redevelopment would improve trading conditions and enhance commercial activities in the area.

The governor said similar projects, including the redevelopment of Oba Market in Benin City and the Ekpoma Modern Market, reflect his administration’s commitment to improving livelihoods and expanding economic opportunities across Edo State.

  • Okpebholo Alleges Opposition Behind Rising Insecurity, Says No Vacancy in Aso Rock

Governor Monday Okpebholo has alleged that rising insecurity across Nigeria is being fuelled by opposition elements seeking to discredit the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Okpebholo made the remarks on Tuesday in Benin City during the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the forthcoming local government elections in Edo South Senatorial District.

Okpebholo Blames Opposition for Security Challenges

The governor claimed that the recent increase in kidnappings and other security incidents was politically motivated and aimed at undermining the federal government.

According to him, those behind the insecurity would not achieve their political ambitions through such actions.

“There is no vacancy in Aso Rock. They can even kidnap all of us, yes, there is no vacancy in Aso Rock,” he said.

“What is happening today is the handiwork of the opposition. They have failed. Is it by kidnapping children? Then who are you going to govern? There will be nobody for you to govern.”

He urged those responsible to allow governments at all levels to focus on governance and development.

Tinubu’s Policies Yielding Results, Governor Says

Okpebholo also defended President Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the president had achieved more than previous administrations.

He pointed to ongoing projects in Edo State as evidence of the benefits arising from federal economic reforms, including the removal of fuel subsidy.

The governor maintained that the impact of the policy was becoming visible through infrastructure development and increased government investments.

APC Targets Strong Performance in Council Polls

Okpebholo congratulated candidates who emerged from the APC primaries ahead of the local government elections, expressing confidence in the party’s chances.

He said strong performances at the grassroots level would strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to him, the APC remains committed to delivering what he described as the 2.5 million votes promised to President Tinubu in the next presidential election.

    Party Chairman Expresses Confidence

Speaking at the event, Edo APC chairman Jarrett Tenebe described the ruling party as the dominant political force in the state.

He urged candidates to campaign on the achievements of the Okpebholo administration and take the message of development to communities across Edo State.

  • Okpebholo Says Obi Can’t Win Edo in 2027, Links 2023 Victory to Past Govt

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has said Labour Party’s Peter Obi will not win the state in the 2027 presidential election, attributing his 2023 victory to the performance of the previous administration.

Governor questions basis of Obi’s past win

Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television on Thursday, Okpebholo claimed Obi’s success in Edo during the last election was influenced by dissatisfaction with the then state government.

“Peter Obi defeated Tinubu last time because the governor was not working,” he said.

Confidence in APC support ahead of 2027

The governor also expressed confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that growing support across the state would translate into electoral victory.

He reaffirmed his earlier position that he would deliver 2.5 million votes to President Bola Tinubu in the next general election.

‘Support will reflect at the polls’

Okpebholo dismissed doubts about his projection, stating that public enthusiasm already reflects the party’s strength on the ground.

“We were on the street. Nobody told them we were coming. People were leaving their houses. And that is the vote,” he added.

APC eyes stronger performance in Edo

The governor maintained that with improved governance and mobilisation, the APC is positioned to secure a more decisive outcome in Edo State in 2027.

  • Okpebholo Grants Full Scholarships to Three Children of Late Edo Officer Braimah

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has approved full educational scholarships for the three children of the late Oseni Omoh Braimah, a fallen security officer, in a move aimed at securing their academic future from their current levels up to university.

    What happened

The Edo State Government confirmed the approval in a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Patrick Akhere Ebojele.

The beneficiaries are Farida Hussain-Braimah, 18, a 100-level Software Engineering student at Nile University, Abuja; Amir Hussain-Braimah, 16, an SS3 student at Olumawu Senior School; and Yasmeen Hussain-Braimah, 12, a JSS2 pupil at Olumawu Junior Secondary School.

The government said their education will be fully funded without interruption.

    Governor’s decision

Governor Okpebholo described the gesture as both a moral responsibility and a commitment to honouring those who die in service to the nation.

“Brigadier General Braimah paid the ultimate price in service to this country. It is only right that we stand by the family he left behind,” he said.

He added that the initiative is designed to ensure the children are not denied access to quality education due to the loss of their father.

    What the scholarship covers

The state government said the support will cover the children’s education from their current academic levels through to university, fully funded by the Edo State Government.

Officials added that the policy reflects the administration’s focus on human capital development under its SHINE Agenda, which prioritises education and social welfare.

    Honouring a fallen officer

The late Braimah was described by the governor as a symbol of discipline, courage, and patriotism.

He died during security operations and was later buried with full military honours at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery.

    Wider call for support

The Edo State Government also called on other states and private sector actors to adopt similar initiatives to support families of fallen military personnel.

It stressed the need for structured interventions, especially in education, to prevent children of deceased officers from being left behind.

The move adds to growing conversations around long-term welfare systems for families of security personnel who die in active service.
