1. INEC Declares Adeleke Winner of Osun Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party the winner of the Osun State governorship election held on Saturday. Returning Officer Professor Joshua Ogunwole announced that Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, while the African Democratic Congress candidate came third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, giving him a margin of 66,252 votes. The declaration followed overnight collation, with more than 98 per cent of polling unit results uploaded to the IReV portal. A total of 1,010,684 voters were accredited out of 2,339,544 registered voters.
2. Tinubu Congratulates Adeleke, Tasks Him on Unity After Osun Victory
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated re-elected Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke and urged him to prioritise peace and unity in the state. Tinubu conveyed the message during a telephone call to Adeleke on Sunday, describing the election result as a reflection of the people’s will.
Adeleke has since appealed for calm and pledged to focus on development and good governance. He also directed the withdrawal of a lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission after saying the President’s intervention helped resolve the dispute.
3. El-Rufai Files Fresh N10 Billion Suit Against ICPC Over Family Access
Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has filed a N10 billion fundamental rights suit against the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission at the Federal High Court in Abuja. El-Rufai accused ICPC officials of repeatedly preventing his wife, Aichatou Asabe, and son, Abba El-Rufai, from accessing him while in custody.
The suit, filed on August 13, also names the ICPC chairman and the Attorney-General of the Federation as defendants. El-Rufai is seeking unrestricted family access and damages over alleged intimidation, emotional trauma and humiliation during his detention.
4. Bank of Industry’s Maiden N250 Billion Bond Oversubscribed
The Bank of Industry has successfully closed its maiden N250 billion Series 1 Fixed Rate Bond after strong institutional demand led to the offer being oversubscribed within five working days. The five-year bond was issued through BOI Financing SPV Plc under a $1 billion multi-currency programme.
The proceeds will support businesses in sectors including agriculture, healthcare, renewable energy, manufacturing and oil and gas. Investors included pension fund administrators, banks, development finance institutions, the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority and the International Finance Corporation.
5. EFCC Recovers $60 Million in Nestoil Debt Probe
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered $60 million from indigenous oil and gas company Nestoil Limited and paid the money to a consortium of lenders as part of an ongoing investigation into the company’s transactions. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede chaired a meeting that produced a structured repayment arrangement between Nestoil and its creditors.
The lenders welcomed the first payment but said a substantial balance remains outstanding. Another estimated $40 million is expected in the next phase of the repayment process as efforts continue to resolve the long-running debt dispute.
6. Bandits Kill at Least 32 Residents in Sokoto Community Attack
Suspected bandits have killed at least 32 residents of Ungushi community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State following an attack on Friday. Residents said the attackers struck while people were observing Jumu’a prayers before setting fire to houses, shops and vehicles.
The attackers later moved into neighbouring communities and reportedly rustled livestock. Community members claimed that 13 of the assailants were also killed during the confrontation. Security forces subsequently responded with air support in nearby areas as displaced residents began returning to the community.
7. Adeleke Withdraws EFCC Lawsuit After Tinubu Intervention
Re-elected Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the state Attorney-General to withdraw a lawsuit filed against the EFCC over the earlier freezing of state government accounts. Adeleke said the decision followed a telephone conversation with President Bola Tinubu.
The governor’s decision comes shortly after his victory in the Osun governorship election. The withdrawal is expected to ease tensions between the Osun State Government and the federal anti-graft agency as Adeleke begins his next term in office.
8. Cameroon Wins First WAFCON Title with 3-0 Victory Over Malawi
Cameroon has won the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations for the first time after defeating tournament debutants Malawi 3-0 in the final in Rabat, Morocco. Marie Ngah Manga scored twice while Naomi Eto added another goal as the Indomitable Lionesses secured the continental title with all three goals coming in the first half.
Cameroon had earlier eliminated Nigeria’s Super Falcons in the quarter-finals. The victory earns the champions $2 million in prize money and gives Cameroon its first WAFCON title after previous final defeats to Nigeria.
9. Wizkid to Headline Opening Night of Detty December Fest 2026
Grammy-winning Afrobeats star Wizkid has been confirmed as the headline act for the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026 in Lagos on December 18. Organisers Livespot360 said the 13-day festival will run until December 30 across two stages.
Wizkid will perform on the main Festival Stage, while the new Pulse Stage will feature emerging artists. The festival’s 2025 edition reportedly attracted more than 40,000 attendees, and organisers expect this year’s event to further boost Lagos’ entertainment and tourism economy.
10. Army Strengthens Security Along Sokoto-Kebbi Border Over Lakurawa Threat
The Nigerian Army has increased troop deployment and security operations along the Sokoto-Kebbi border in response to renewed threats linked to the Lakurawa group and continuing bandit activities. The move follows recent attacks that killed dozens of residents and displaced communities in the region.
The Army said the increased presence is aimed at protecting border communities, disrupting criminal movements and restoring confidence among residents. The development comes amid persistent insecurity in the North-West, where attacks continue to disrupt farming, trade and daily activities.
