Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has revealed plans to visit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at Aso Rock following his re-election, saying the President congratulated him in a friendly phone call after the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke described Tinubu as a father figure and said they joked about his victory during their conversation.
“I got a call and it was a very friendly call. He called me because I see him as a father. So he said, ‘Mr Governor, what’s going on? How is the election going?’ I said, ‘Ah, your son is cruising to victory,’” Adeleke said.
Tinubu Congratulated Adeleke
According to the governor, Tinubu acknowledged the outcome of the election and congratulated him after the Independent National Electoral Commission declared him the winner.
“He just told me, ‘Oh, congratulations. Democracy has been played.’ And he said congratulations,” Adeleke recalled.
The governor said the conversation further showed the cordial relationship between him and the President despite their different political affiliations. Adeleke contested the election under the Accord Party, while Tinubu is the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
‘We Can Dance Together’
Adeleke, who is widely known for his dancing at public events, also said Tinubu often asks about his dancing whenever they meet.
“Anytime he sees me, he says, ‘How is the dance going?’ I say, ‘It’s going very well. In fact, I’ll come and see you so that we can do one or two steps,’” he said.
The governor added that he appreciated Tinubu for the congratulatory call and looked forward to meeting him at the Presidential Villa.
Adeleke Wins Second Term
INEC declared Adeleke the winner of the Osun governorship election after he secured 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. The result secured Adeleke another four-year term as Osun State governor.
