Afrobeats star Davido has praised his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, saying his re-election should show other governors the importance of working for the people.
Davido made the remark during a press conference in Osun State on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, days after Adeleke was declared winner of the August 15 governorship election.
Davido Praises Adeleke
Speaking to journalists, Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, said the governor’s relationship with Osun residents demonstrated the value of serving the people.
“My uncle should be an example to other Governors, that if you work for the people, the people too will work for you,” he said.
The singer also said he was deeply moved by the support shown to Adeleke during the election period.
“I cried so much because the love was massive,” he added.
Adeleke Wins Second Term
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner of the election after he polled 511,067 votes.
He defeated All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, who scored 444,815 votes. Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
The victory secured Adeleke another four-year term as Osun governor after he first won the position in 2022.
Davido’s Role in the Campaign
Davido played an active role in his uncle’s campaign and served as chairman of the Imole Youth Mobilisation Committee. He also repeatedly urged supporters to maintain peace during the election.
After Adeleke was declared winner, the singer celebrated the result online with the message, “WE DID IT UNC !!!” alongside an emotional video.
At Tuesday’s briefing, Davido appeared in a yellow Osun State-branded cap and white attire as he addressed journalists amid Nigerian and Osun flags.
The singer’s latest comments add to his public defence of Adeleke’s administration and his call for leaders to build stronger relationships with the people they govern.
