Oborevwori Reveals His ₦503,000 Monthly Salary, Says Permanent Secretaries Earn ₦900,000

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has disclosed that he earns ₦503,000 monthly, saying the figure is lower than the ₦900,000 salary of Permanent Secretaries and the ₦1 million earned by the state’s Head of Service.

Oborevwori made the disclosure on Thursday, August 20, 2026, during the inauguration of 12 four-bedroom terraced duplexes for Permanent Secretaries and the presentation of official vehicles to the newly appointed officials in Asaba.

Governor Compares Salaries

Explaining the salary structure, Oborevwori said the state increased the pay of Permanent Secretaries after they complained that some directors were earning almost the same amount.

“When the Permanent Secretaries said most of the Directors are receiving almost the same thing with them, we increased their money,” he said.

He added: “Today, Permanent Secretaries… Your salary is 900, my salary is 503,000, Governor’s salary. Head of Service is one million.”

The governor made the remarks while speaking at the podium during the event, with a video of the statement later circulating widely on social media.

Oborevwori Highlights Civil Service Welfare

The governor linked the salary adjustment to his administration’s efforts to improve the welfare of civil servants in the state.

He said Delta was among the first states to fully implement the national minimum wage and highlighted other welfare measures, including vehicle loans for 302 public officers and housing loans for 119 workers.

Oborevwori also disclosed that his administration was preparing an executive bill to make the 13th-month salary payment, expected to begin in December, a legal entitlement that would continue beyond his tenure.

12 Permanent Secretaries Get Vehicles

The governor said the 12 Permanent Secretaries appointed in May were selected based on merit and representation across the state’s local government areas.

He maintained that the appointments were not influenced by political recommendations.

The officials also received official vehicles to improve their mobility and efficiency, while internal access roads at the Permanent Secretaries’ quarters were commissioned.

The disclosure has attracted attention online because of the difference between the governor’s stated monthly salary and the remuneration of senior civil servants serving under his administration.
