Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to US President Donald Trump and the international community to pay attention to the August 15 Osun State governorship election amid concerns over possible violence and intimidation.
Davido made the appeal in a post on X on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, urging authorities to protect voters and ensure a free and fair election.
Davido Appeals to Trump
Addressing Trump directly, Davido said growing tension around the election could threaten the ability of Osun residents to vote freely.
“I am calling your attention to the situation in Osun State, Nigeria, as we approach the election,” he wrote.
“There are growing concerns about tension and the possibility of violence, intimidation, or disruption of the democratic process.”
The singer urged the United States and other members of the international community to monitor developments and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” Davido added.
Osun Election Holds August 15
The Osun governorship election is scheduled for Saturday, August 15, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke seeking re-election under the Accord Party.
Adeleke is Davido’s uncle. Other leading candidates include APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress.
INEC has cleared 14 candidates for the election, while more than 2.3 million registered voters are expected to participate across the state.
Tensions Rise Ahead of Poll
INEC has said it is prepared for the election, with BVAS devices deployed for voter accreditation and participating parties signing a peace accord.
However, political tensions have continued to rise ahead of the poll, with reports of intimidation and clashes adding to concerns about election-day security.
The Nigeria Police Force has also announced a large security deployment across polling units as authorities prepare for the election.
Davido Says He Will Escalate Concerns
Davido has repeatedly spoken about the need for a peaceful and credible election in Osun while campaigning for his uncle.
He previously indicated that he could take his concerns to international platforms, including contacting Trump, if he believed the electoral process was being compromised.
Davido defended his decision to appeal directly to Trump, pointing to his Nigerian-American citizenship and international profile.
