Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reacted to reports claiming he was asked to resign over alleged health concerns.

The claim, which circulated online, suggested the governor had been directed to step down, with his deputy expected to take over.

Lagos Govt Dismisses Claim as False

In a statement issued on Monday, the governor’s media office described the report as completely false and misleading.

The statement, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, said there was no directive asking the governor to resign.

“This report is false in its entirety. Nobody has asked the Lagos Governor to resign,” the statement said.

‘Governor Remains Healthy’

The media team stressed that Sanwo-Olu is in good health and fully in charge of his responsibilities.

“Governor Sanwo-Olu remains in good health, of sound mind, and is actively discharging his duties as Governor of Lagos State,” the statement added.

Details of Meeting With Deputy

The government also addressed speculation triggered by a recent meeting between Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat.

According to the statement, Hamzat had paid a courtesy visit to formally notify the governor of his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election.

It noted that the meeting was routine and held in a cordial atmosphere.

Media Office Warns Against ‘Fake News’

The statement criticised the report as part of a pattern of misinformation and urged the public to disregard it.

“We advise the public to disregard the story and treat it as fake news,” the statement said.

The clarification, it added, was necessary to prevent Lagosians from being misled.
