Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has called for the integration of Arabic education into Nigeria’s formal education system, saying the move would ensure graduates of Arabic-speaking universities receive equal recognition and opportunities across the country.

The governor made the appeal while receiving a delegation of Nigerian students studying in Saudi Arabian universities during a courtesy visit to the Government House in Bauchi.

Governor Pushes for Equal Recognition

Mohammed said Northern Nigeria has a long history of educational, religious and cultural ties with the Arab world, but expressed concern that the region’s rich Arabic educational heritage is gradually declining.

He argued that incorporating Arabic education into the national curriculum would give graduates of Arabic-speaking institutions equal opportunities while strengthening Nigeria’s education sector.

Support for Arabic Education

The delegation was led by the Director of the Centre for Sunnah Studies in Africa, Dr. Shuaibu Idris, who said the visit was to appreciate the governor’s commitment to education and brief him on the Centre’s activities, particularly its support for Bauchi students studying in Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to reviving the abandoned Arabic College in Alkaleri to expand access to quality Arabic education and preserve the region’s educational legacy.

Students Appreciate Governor

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the students thanked the governor for his continued support and encouragement. They pledged to use the knowledge and experience gained in Saudi Arabia to contribute to the development of Bauchi State and Nigeria after completing their studies.

The governor maintained that strengthening Arabic education would complement Nigeria’s educational system and create more opportunities for students trained in the language.
