Nollywood actor Charles Inojie has stirred reactions after claiming that “side chicks” can help save troubled marriages, arguing that divorce is rising because people have moved away from what he described as God’s original design for marriage.
The actor made the remarks during a beer parlour discussion while speaking about the increasing rate of divorce.
Inojie Links Divorce to Marriage Challenges
Inojie said the rising rate of divorce was partly caused by couples abandoning what he called God’s original plan for marriage.
“One of the reasons the rate of divorce is high is because we humans have left God’s original design for marriage,” he said.
The actor argued that marriage was never designed to be without difficulties and suggested that couples needed ways to manage periods of tension.
Actor Makes Controversial ‘Side Chick’ Claim
Inojie then made the controversial claim that God created side chicks as a way for men to cope with challenges in their marriages.
“For instance, God knows marriage would not be easy, that’s why He created side chicks so that when things are hard at home, the man can use the side chick to save the marriage because side chick is very important in every marriage,” he said.
The comment has drawn attention online, with the claim likely to generate debate over infidelity, marriage and the responsibilities of couples.
Marriage Debate Draws Reactions
Inojie’s remarks come amid continued public discussions around divorce, infidelity and changing attitudes toward marriage in Nigeria.
While the actor presented his view as a way of explaining how some marriages survive difficult periods, his claim that extramarital relationships can preserve marriages remains a personal opinion and does not establish a general rule about marriage or relationships.
