Voting has ended across Osun State in the August 15, 2026 governorship election, with incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party maintaining a lead over APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji as collation continues.

Adeleke Maintains Lead

Provisional figures from results uploaded to INEC’s IReV portal and tracked by independent election monitors showed Adeleke with about 451,000 to 452,000 votes, while Oyebamiji had between 373,000 and 383,000 votes.

ADC candidate Najeem Salaam followed with roughly 14,700 to 15,100 votes. The figures remain provisional and could change as outstanding polling unit results are collated and verified.

The official winner will be announced by INEC’s Returning Officer after the completion of the collation process at the state level.

Voting Across Osun

The election was conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas, 332 wards and 3,763 polling units.

INEC recorded 2,339,233 registered voters, with about 1.91 million Permanent Voter Cards collected ahead of the poll. Security agencies also imposed movement restrictions from midnight on Friday until 6 p.m. on Saturday as part of measures to maintain order.

Voting generally proceeded without major disruption, although some polling units experienced delays caused by large voter turnout and technical issues with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.

15 Parties on Ballot

Fifteen political parties participated in the election after a Federal High Court ruling directed INEC to include the Social Democratic Party candidate, Francis Olugbenga Ajala, on the ballot.

The major contenders were Adeleke, Oyebamiji and Salaam. The Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party did not field candidates in the election.

Concerns Over Collation

Adeleke’s campaign has raised concerns over the possibility of the election being declared inconclusive and called for the protection of votes and collation centres.

Some party agents also reported disagreements over result sheets, while civil society organisations monitored the process and issued interim observations.

With collation still ongoing, INEC has urged political parties, candidates and their supporters to remain calm and await the official declaration.
