Families of at least 176 residents abducted by terrorists in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have appealed to the Federal Government and the Kwara State Government to urgently secure the release of their loved ones after nearly six months in captivity.

The appeal follows reports that the kidnappers threatened to marry the “beautiful” female captives and kill the remaining hostages if their demands were not met.

Families Raise Over ₦155 Million

Speaking on the BBC Hausa Service, Kaiama indigene Abdul Ibrahim said affected communities had raised more than ₦155 million through crowdfunding in an effort to secure the victims’ freedom.

According to him, the terrorists allegedly rejected the ransom despite the huge amount raised, leaving the abductees in captivity.

“We have done everything within our means. The money was raised, yet our people have not been released. Their suffering continues, and families are living in agony,” Ibrahim said.

Call for Government Intervention

Ibrahim said families had explored every available option, including peaceful protests, but their efforts had yielded no result.

He urged the Federal Government, the Kwara State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the captives before the situation deteriorates further.

Leaders Seek Oyo-Style Rescue Operation

Also speaking, the Dan Sardaukin Kaiama and Suleiman Bukata called on security agencies to replicate the recent rescue operation that secured the release of abductees in Oyo State.

Bukata said the successful operation in Oyo had renewed hope among families in Kaiama, stressing that residents of the area deserve the same level of commitment from the authorities.

He warned that every additional day the victims remain in captivity exposes them to greater hardship and danger.
