Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu has said the Nigeria Police Force has significantly reduced cases of misconduct and impunity among its officers, adding that complaints from members of the public have dropped considerably under his leadership.

The police chief made the remarks during a public engagement, where he highlighted ongoing efforts to improve accountability within the Force.

‘Complaints Have Reduced Tremendously’

According to Disu, the number of complaints against police personnel is far lower than when he assumed office.

“If you are sincere to yourself, you will know that complaints against police officers have reduced tremendously,” he said.

“When I came, I was bombarded with complaints left, right, and everywhere. Today, the complaints are just trickling in.”

CRU Credited for Improvement

Disu attributed the progress to the activities of the Police Complaint Response Unit (CRU), describing it as a reliable platform for members of the public to report misconduct.

He said the unit’s contact details are publicly available on digital platforms, including X, Instagram and Facebook.

“Give them the complaint, and they will work on it, and they will call you back and give you feedback,” he stated.

Call for Public Cooperation

The IGP maintained that the Force has made notable progress in addressing misconduct among its personnel.

“We have been able to reduce this impunity amongst our men to the barest minimum,” he said.

He encouraged Nigerians to report any wrongdoing involving police officers, assuring them that every genuine complaint would be investigated.

“The most important thing is, if anything happens, ensure that you complain to us and we will act on it,” he added.
