  • Adeleke Tells IGP to Arrest Anyone Breaking the Law, ‘Even If It Is My Son’

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the Inspector-General of Police to arrest and prosecute anyone involved in criminal activities in the state, saying no one, including members of his family, should be spared.

Adeleke made the declaration on Friday during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Tunji Disu, at the Government House in Osogbo ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

    Governor demands impartial policing

Speaking during the meeting, Adeleke said maintaining peace in Osun State remains his administration’s top priority and urged security agencies to carry out their duties without fear or favour.

“If you see any of my people that committed a crime, arrest them. All we want is peace in Osun State,” the governor said.

He added that even if his own son was found committing an offence, he should be arrested, charged and made to face the law.

“I don’t condone criminality. All I want is peace in my state and not bias policing. Osun deserves peace,” he said.

IGP assures residents of peaceful election

The visit centred on security preparations ahead of the governorship election, with the police chief assuring the governor that the Nigeria Police Force would remain professional, neutral and apolitical throughout the electoral process.

Disu also reaffirmed the commitment of the police to tackling political violence, thuggery and other security threats before, during and after the election.

The meeting comes amid heightened security concerns in Osun State following recent incidents of political violence, including the killing of a teenage boy in Ilobu, for which suspects have already been arrested.

The governor’s remarks have attracted attention as political activities intensify ahead of the governorship poll, with authorities promising stricter enforcement of law and order across the state.

  • IGP Disu Orders Massive Security Deployment Nationwide Ahead of Eid-el-Kabir

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered enhanced security deployments across Nigeria ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.

The police boss also extended Eid greetings to Muslim faithful across the country while assuring Nigerians of improved security during the festive period.

    Police Strengthen Nationwide Security

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the IGP directed Commissioners of Police and Tactical Commanders nationwide to intensify security operations across all states and the Federal Capital Territory.

According to the statement, the Nigeria Police Force has activated several operational measures aimed at ensuring peaceful and hitch-free celebrations.

The measures include the deployment of tactical teams, intelligence operatives and conventional police officers to Eid prayer grounds, highways, recreational centres, motor parks and other public places.

The police also announced intensified visibility policing, stop-and-search operations, coordinated patrols and intelligence-led surveillance activities.

IGP Urges Nigerians To Remain Vigilant

Disu urged Nigerians to remain security conscious throughout the celebration and immediately report suspicious movements or activities.

The police specifically warned citizens to pay attention to unattended bags, unusual gatherings, suspicious individuals around public places and any movement suggesting possible criminal activities.

“Do not ignore suspicious activity. Do not assume someone else has already reported it. Your call is confidential and could prevent a tragedy,” the statement read.

The Force added that swift response protocols had already been activated nationwide to tackle any emerging threat during the Sallah celebration.

  • Osun Govt, Accord Raise Alarm Over Alleged Police Plot Ahead Of Governorship Election

The Osun State Government and the leadership of the Accord Party have accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP) of allegedly deploying a special squad to target opposition figures ahead of the August 15 governorship election in the state.

The allegation was contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, who claimed that the unit was created to carry out operations against Accord Party leaders and some government officials.

    Govt Alleges “Decapitation Operation”

According to the statement, the alleged squad is being led by CSP Moses Lahor.

“We have a reliable report that the Inspector General of Police has created and dispatched a special squad under CSP Moses Lahor for a decapitation operation against Accord leaders,” the statement alleged.

The government further claimed that the operation involved plans for “selective commando-like arrests” of opposition figures.

It alleged that the planned arrests were not intended for investigation purposes but for what it described as “possible summary execution.”

    Allegations Against APC Candidate

The statement also accused the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, of allegedly providing logistical support to the squad.

According to the government, meetings were allegedly held between the squad and the APC candidate ahead of the operation.

“The APC candidate has availed the alleged squad two Toyota 18-seater buses and one Sienna car for their operations,” the statement claimed.

The government further alleged that the operation was being coordinated without the knowledge of the Osun State Commissioner of Police.

    Concerns Over Officer’s Past Conduct

The statement also claimed that the squad leader had previously been posted out of Osun State following alleged misconduct linked to a shooting incident involving a suspected member of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

According to the government, the officer was later redeployed to another police unit as part of what it described as “operational punishment.”

    Call For Intervention

The Osun government and Accord Party called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the international community to intervene over the alleged development.

“We urge the Inspector General of Police to ensure that his men are not used to carry out unlawful operations in Osun State,” the statement added.

They also warned against any attempt to disrupt the election process, insisting that residents of the state remained aware of what they described as political plots ahead of the poll.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Police Force had not issued any official response to the allegations as of the time of filing this report.

  • IGP Disu bans POS operators near police stations nationwide over bribery concerns

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered an immediate nationwide restriction barring Point-of-Sale (POS) operators from operating within 200 metres of police stations and formations across Nigeria.

The directive was contained in an internal police wireless message circulated to commands and formations nationwide, with the police leadership warning that violations would attract disciplinary consequences for senior officers in affected jurisdictions.

    Police cite corruption concerns

According to the internal communication, the Nigeria Police Force expressed concern over what it described as the “alarming proliferation” of POS operators around police facilities across the country.

The police authorities stated that the increasing presence of POS agents near stations had become linked to complaints of bribery, illegal transactions and unofficial financial dealings involving officers and civilians.

The message noted that the development was undermining ongoing reform efforts targeted at improving transparency, accountability and public confidence in policing.

“The Force leadership observed with utmost dismay the growing trend of POS operators clustering around police formations,” part of the signal reportedly stated.

    200-metre restriction takes effect

Following the development, the Force Headquarters directed that no POS operator should be allowed to function within a 200-metre radius of any police station, divisional headquarters or police formation nationwide.

The directive also placed responsibility for compliance on senior officers, warning that Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, Commissioners of Police and heads of formations would be held “vicariously liable” for any breach recorded within their areas of supervision.

The police authorities stressed that the order should be enforced immediately across all commands.

    Move linked to extortion allegations

Security analysts have linked the new directive to longstanding allegations of extortion and unofficial cash collection involving some police personnel.

Human rights groups and civil society organisations have repeatedly raised concerns over the close proximity of POS operators to police stations, arguing that some officers allegedly force suspects or civilians to make instant transfers or withdrawals through nearby agents during arrests or interrogations.

The development is seen as part of broader efforts by the current police leadership to curb corruption allegations and restore public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.

  • IGP Orders Dismissal, Prosecution of Officers Over Effurun Killing

The Inspector-General of Police, Rilwan Olutunji Disu, has ordered disciplinary action and recommended prosecution for officers involved in the fatal shooting of Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.

    IGP condemns shooting as criminal

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, the IGP described the incident as “criminal, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable,” stressing that it contradicts the core values of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said the officer at the centre of the case, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in clear violation of established procedures and rules governing the use of firearms.

Disu stated firmly that the conduct had no place within the police institution.

    Officers face dismissal and prosecution

The IGP disclosed that all officers linked to the incident were immediately transferred to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for investigation and disciplinary review.

According to him, proceedings by the Force Disciplinary Committee and the Orderly Room Tribunal confirmed breaches of operational procedures and unlawful conduct.

Both bodies have now recommended the dismissal of ASP Nuhu Usman and other implicated officers, alongside their prosecution for unlawful homicide.

Case moves to Police Service Commission

Disu said the recommendations have been forwarded to the Police Service Commission for final approval, after which the affected officers will be handed over to judicial authorities.

He emphasised that the actions of the officers were individual violations and should not be seen as reflective of the Nigeria Police Force as an institution.

The IGP reiterated that the Force operates under the rule of law and does not tolerate misconduct within its ranks.

    Condolence and assurance of justice

The police chief extended condolences to the family of the deceased, acknowledging the gravity of the loss and the public concern surrounding the incident.

He assured that justice would be pursued transparently and that the process would be seen to its conclusion.

Disu also urged members of the public to remain calm and avoid taking the law into their own hands.

    Renewed stance against police impunity

Reaffirming the Force’s position, the IGP stated that accountability remains a priority and that no officer is above the law.

He added that ongoing reforms are aimed at strengthening discipline and restoring public confidence in policing across the country.

  • Police Launch Green Fleet Push as IGP Disu Receives CNG Buses from Trust Fund, PI-CNG

The Nigeria Police Force has begun a shift toward cleaner energy and modern mobility after receiving three specialised buses powered by compressed natural gas, in a move authorities say will improve operations and reduce fuel costs nationwide.

The vehicles were officially handed over on April 21, 2026, by the Nigeria Police Trust Fund and the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas and Electric Vehicles, marking the first phase of a broader transition plan within the Force.

    What the rollout means

The donation signals the start of a long-term plan to modernise the police operational fleet by gradually converting existing vehicles to compressed natural gas, a step expected to cut operational expenses and reduce environmental impact.

Officials involved in the project said the initiative goes beyond supplying vehicles, with plans already in place to build technical capacity within the Force and ensure sustainability of the transition over time.

They noted that the shift to alternative energy aligns with global trends in law enforcement logistics, where agencies are increasingly adopting cost-effective and environmentally friendly solutions.

    IGP reacts to development

Receiving the fleet, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, lauded the initiative as a strategic necessity. He emphasized that the shift to CNG and electric power is a visionary move that aligns the Force with global best practices in modern logistics.

He said the introduction of CNG-powered vehicles would enhance day-to-day policing activities while easing the financial burden associated with fuel consumption across commands.

The police chief also revealed plans to establish internal conversion centres that will enable the Force to independently maintain and upgrade its fleet, reducing reliance on external technical support.

    Push for long-term sustainability

Stakeholders at the event stressed that the partnership between the Police Trust Fund and the PI-CNG initiative is designed to deliver long-term benefits, including lower emissions and improved fleet management systems.

They added that continued collaboration would see more vehicles introduced and existing ones retrofitted, as part of efforts to reposition the Nigeria Police Force for modern policing demands.

The development highlights a growing shift within public institutions toward energy-efficient solutions, especially at a time when rising fuel costs continue to strain operational budgets across sectors.
