David Adedeji Adeleke professionally known as Davido, is a Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and record producer who was born on November 21, 1992, in Atlanta, Georgia, United States. His father Adedeji Adeleke is a business magnate from Nigeria, and his mother Vero Adeleke. He is regarded as one of the most important Afrobeats artists of the 21st century and is credited alongside Burna Boy and Wizkid for popularizing the genre globally. In January 2019, Davido sold out The O2 Arena in London, becoming the first solo African artist after Wizkid in 2018. He was recently all over the news headlines for losing all his nominations at the recently concluded Grammy Awards, So to sympathize with the Nigerian superstar we have compiled the list of top ten notable awards won by Davido.
1. BET Awards
Nigerian pop star Davido 2014 won Best International Act at the BET Awards and urged greater collaborations between US and African musicians. The BET Awards, established by Black Entertainment Television to recognize the best in African American culture, maintains an international category for black music from outside the United States. Also in 2016 won another BET Awards for the best international act on the book occasion. This is the first on the list of awards won by Davido.
2. MTV Europe Music Awards
The MTV Europe Music Awards are awards presented by Paramount International Networks to honor artists and music in pop culture. Davido won the Best African Act at the 2017 MTV Europe Music Awards and became the 8th artist and the 3rd Nigerian to win it,2017 was a good year for Davido when he released back-to-back hit singles ”If, FALL, and FIA” were released in February, and immediately went viral across social media platforms and the mass media platforms within a matter of days. The song was so welcomed that even R. Kelly had to record his version of the song, which eventually led to his collaboration with Davido to record the official remix of the song.
3. Mobo Awards
The MOBO Awards is an annual British music award presentation honoring achievements in “music of black origin”, including hip hop, grime, UK Drill, R&B, soul, reggae, jazz, gospel, and African music. Davido is also a recipient of the Mobo Awards for Best African Act, winning two of four nominations. This is also part of the awards won by Davido
4. Headies Awards
The Headies is a music awards show established in 2006 by the Hip Hop World Magazine of Nigeria to recognize outstanding achievements in the Nigerian music industry. One of the notable awards on David’s shelf is the Headies Awards, he is one of the artists who has won the awards the most accumulating a total of eight times. His first headies award was won in 2013 as the next rated, and in 2014 his song ”’Aye” was the song of the year.
5. Afrima Awards
The popularly known Nigerian singer Ghana Music Awards, currently known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards for sponsorship reasons, is an annual music awards event in Ghana established in 1999 by a local event organizer and planner who was also one of the biggest winners, who won the Best Male Artist in African Inspirational Music and Best Artist in African Pop categories. His song ‘Champion Sound’ featuring South Africa’s Focalistic also earned him victories in the Best African Collaboration and Best Duo Group in African Electro categories.
6. Ghana Music Awards
The Ghana Music Awards, currently known as the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is an annual music awards event in Ghana established in 1999 by a local event organizer and planner. Davido is also a recipient of the Ghana Music Awards he won the award first in 2024 for the African Artiste of the Year and since then won the award two more times.
7. MTV Africa Music Awards
The MTV Africa Music Awards were established in 2008 by MTV Networks Africa to celebrate the most popular contemporary music in Africa. Davido is also a recipient of the Africa Music Awards. He won the awards twice in 2014 for the best male and the artiste of the year. This is the last of the list of awards won by Davido.
