Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has welcomed Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara back into the political structure that brought him to power, saying the reconciliation will strengthen both Rivers State and President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election campaign.
Wike made the remarks on Tuesday while speaking with journalists after inspecting ongoing road projects in Abuja.
Wike Welcomes Fubara’s Return
The former Rivers State governor said he had always maintained that Fubara would eventually return to the political family that supported his emergence as governor.
“I said during my last media chat that he had no other choice but to return to the same political family that produced him. I have now been informed that he has made that declaration publicly, and we welcome him,” Wike said.
“Our doors are open. Everybody is welcome to work with us. There is no better alternative. We will work together to move Rivers State forward.”
‘There Is No Sin in Politics’
Wike dismissed suggestions that Fubara needed forgiveness for their prolonged political dispute, insisting politics is about interests and reconciliation.
According to him, “There is no sin in politics,” adding that correcting one’s political direction should be seen as a sign of wisdom rather than weakness.
Fubara Declared Support for Tinubu
Wike’s comments followed Fubara’s public declaration on July 22 during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rivien Medical Industries Project in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.
At the event, Fubara announced his return to the political family associated with Wike, endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027, pledged support for the Rainbow Coalition and backed Kingsley Chinda as his preferred governorship candidate.
“We have made peace in the state and I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our president. I’ve gone back to our family. The time of war is over. It is time for peace,” Fubara said.
Political Realignment Ahead of 2027
The reconciliation follows months of political tension between Wike and Fubara, which had divided Rivers State’s political landscape and affected governance.
A peace process facilitated by President Tinubu helped ease the crisis, paving the way for renewed cooperation between the two political leaders.
Wike expressed confidence that the renewed alliance would strengthen Rivers State’s role in supporting Tinubu’s 2027 re-election effort.
