In-depth research evidences have shown that students are responsible for their failure in examinations.  There are many cause to why you have been failing.

I have seen great people been celebrated along with their achievements and all they are, but I have never seen a failure celebrated before. A lot of people whine all day talking about how life has been unfair to them, how they have been having troubles and how the community stood against them.

As a students you talk about how the course is difficult, how the teacher is poor at teaching.

In other words, you try to find excuses for all that has happened to you. Meanwhile, most times a student fails, the first thing that pops-up in the mind is find an excuse to wave around it.

Reasons Why You May Have Been Failing

There are variables of reasons for student failure or why you’ve been failing. But Out of this variables is the parent’s contribution likewise teachers own part. As a result of their inputs, they all play a vital role that ensures you fail.

However, we’ll be looking at the students own contribution to their own failure, as student has a determinant role to play in sealing their own failure at all cost.

Poor Study Habit

Generally this is one of the main reason why you have been failing. When a student fails to identify the strategy of what works best for such student and how well he/she can manage their time. There are few things that will be listed here. A student will say;

  1. I don’t have interest in the course,
  2. I am not fully concentrated, I get carried away and prefer other things during the lectures (e.g. social media; Facebook, whatsapp, twitter, instagram etc.),
  3. I don’t like to study, I prefer listening to recording of lectures,
  4. Studying systematically, is not my thing,
  5. My classes catches me off-guard, as I am not always prepared,
  6. I don’t like this department/faculty or university,
  7. I prefer to have party, have fun and spend time with my friends
  8. Absorbing all the information handed to me, is a bit difficult.

Psychological Emotional adjustment problems

  1. I can’t solve my personal problems,
  2. I am having relationship problems with my friends. That is why you have been failing,
  3. I’m not too sure of myself when it comes to being successful,
  4. I am not encouraged to participate in class/lectures,
  5. I’m far away from my family, and
  6. It difficult to adapt to the big city,
  7. I can’t communicate with the teacher(s)/lecturers,
  8. I am afraid, what if I’m not successful. That is why you have been failing.

Time management

  1. I don’t have enough time to get prepared for the examinations
  2. I have to work off-campus to make money
  3. There is no time for fun
  4. I have problems in commuting (transportation problems)
  5. I am not able to work on my lectures except during class. That is why you have been failing.

 Problems with course content and examinations

  1. The course is very difficult for me
  2. I can’t understand the lecture
  3. The intellectual level of the lecturers exceeds my
  4. capacity of understanding
  5. I need a lot of time to study for this course
  6. Usually the questions that are asked on the examinations are the ones that we haven’t covered. That is why you have been failing,
  7. I don’t remember the things I studied during the examinations
  8. The length of time to prepare for the examinations is very short

  5. I won’t be able to obtain a high economic status after graduation
  6. I can’t make definite career plans for the future
  • Lack of interest in the school programme
  • Low retention problem
  • Associating with wrong peers
  • Low motivational problem
  • Emotional problems
  • Lack of financial support
  • Absenteeism/Truancy
  • Use of local language and poor communication skills in the official school language
  • Lack of interest and joy in teachers’ lectures
  • Learning disability
  • Low cognitive ability
  • Gender pre-maturity
  • Medical (health) problems

Meanwhile, you whine all day and make excuses without taking a step. In addition you can never be caught off-guard, to you there’s always a reason, a perfect excuse for anything that happens to you.

What learned and sane person does, is to man-up and take the fault for any of their mistakes, as a result, they look for what the solution will be for them.

Other reasons why you have been failing might be,

government problem; Poor supervision, inadequate funding of education sector leading to incessant strikes, poor salary scales for teachers, irregular payment of teachers’ salaries all

Parental problem; lack of proper guidance by parents, inability to provide foodstuff, to provide study materials for their ward, their inability to provide other basic school need, less interaction with children.

Problem associated with tutor/teacher/Lecturer; Absenteeism Inability to complete the syllabus/course content, Less interest in students’ understanding of lectures, poor methods of teaching.
