Who is Rinu Oduala, The Popular Human Right Activist

Rinu Oduala, popularly known as Savvy Rinu is a human rights activist, Twitter influencer, and media strategist. She began to make headlines due to her participation during the #EndSARS movement.

Aside from her participation during the #Endsars protest, she is also known for antagonizing the present government and underperforming politicians.

She was recently in the news again after several Twitter users took to the platform to drag her for planning to host the previous senate President, Bukola Saraki on a twitter space.

According to a social media report, Rinu had led an online mob attack against Taooma and her colleagues for simply honouring the Vice President’s invitation late last year.

Criticizing Taooma, She wrote: “The issue here isn’t about the visit. You asked for the audience to see Osinbajo to promote your Skits Industry Awards. You guys are now making it look like you specifically went to talk on behalf of the youths.”

Many of the reactions against the space with Saraki had stemmed from the fact that she had criticised the skit maker and colleagues for visiting the Vice President.

Education and career

Rinu Oduala was born on the 1st of November 1998 in Lagos State, Nigeria,  She holds a diploma from Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta. She is presently studying Chemistry at Lagos State University.

She is also the founder of Connect Hub Ng, a community of young people, that aims at creating change by advocating against police brutality and state-sponsored violence.

Activism

Prior to the Endsars Movement, Rinu had begun advocating for human rights, she convened a campaign against the Rape and Murder of Miss Vera Uwa Omozuwa, An 100 level student who was gruesomely murdered in her church, and 16 year old, Nzekwe Tina, who was a victim of the extrajudicial killings of the Nigerian police.

During the heat of the Covid-19, pandemic lockdown, She began a project she called the operation to sanitize, where she produced sanitisers with her friends and then distributed them to nearby communities.  According to Businessday.ng, a total of about 100,000 sanitisers were produced and distributed.

As stated earlier, she broke into the headlines, due to her active participation during the Endsars protest, Following the protest, she was chosen as one of the youth representatives of the Lagos judicial panel on police brutality. But she stepped down from the panel noting that she won’t be part of the cover-up.

Awards and Honours

Rinu was listed among the 31 Women Creating a Positive Impact in Africa by NBC and by BBC among the list of Nigerian Women Leading the Fight for Change.

She was among the 100 Most Influential Young Nigerians and among the Most Inspiring Youths and Generation of Change Makers in West Africa.
