Biography
Although Tucker was born in San Francisco, much of his upbringing took place there. Richard Warner Carlson, an LA news anchor and ambassador to the Seychelles, was his father. When Tucker was just six years old, his mother abandoned him and his siblings. Richard married Patricia Caroline Swanson when Tucker was 10 years old. Thanks to her grandpa Carl A. Swanson, who established the Swanson frozen foods industry, Patricia was extraordinarily rich. He studied history at Hartford, Connecticut’s Trinity College, where he received his degree in 1991.
Career
Carlson started in journalism as a fact-checker for Policy Review before moving on to become a reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. He eventually joined The Weekly Standard news magazine in 1995. He has done freelance work for publications including Esquire, The New York Times Magazine, and The Daily Beast.
Carlson joined CNN in 2000 and made the transition to television. She began by co-hosting the brief episode of “The Spin Room.” He and Robert Novak were appointed co-hosts of the program “Crossfire” the following year. He also served as the anchor of Tucker Carlson: Unfiltered, a weekly public affairs program that aired on PBS. He took Jon Stewart’s spot on Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” in 2004. However, CNN dissolved its partnership with Carlson.
Carlson joined MSNBC in 2005 and started presenting the afternoon program “Tucker.” After that, she was in charge of hosting a daily afternoon review of the Winter Olympics in 2006. She has written about the Middle East Crisis Special Report on MSNBC. But in 2008, the final episode of his Tucker show aired, and Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow took up his previous timeslots 6 and 8.
