Travel blogger Tom, popularly known as TravelTomTom, has criticised the prices at a Lagos restaurant after paying $22 for an acai or smoothie bowl and comparing the cost of meals and drinks with prices in Miami, Dubai and Los Angeles.

Tom shared his reaction while reviewing the restaurant during his visit to Lagos, describing the venue as one of the city’s most expensive restaurants.

‘This Is Lagos, Nigeria’

Tom said he paid $22 for a smoothie bowl, describing the portion as relatively small.

“If I tell you how much I paid for this smoothie bowl, you’re going to be shocked because I made it to the most expensive restaurant in all of Lagos,” he said.

He also pointed to the menu and noted that pomegranate juice was priced at ₦25,000, which he estimated at about $20.

“You know that means 20 US dollars for a juice,” he said.

Tom Compares Lagos Prices With Major Cities

The travel blogger also highlighted breakfast options listed at around $30, including avocado toast.

“One of our breakfast prices for 30 dollars, yeah, 39,000,” he said before pointing out the avocado toast.

“And my favourite avocado on toast, I think we have here as well, is 30 US dollars,” Tom added.

He said some of the prices appeared higher than what he had encountered in Miami, Dubai and Los Angeles.

“I think that’s more expensive than in Miami, in Dubai, in LA. No, this is Lagos, Nigeria, guys,” he said.

‘It’s Not Worth $22’

Despite criticising the prices, Tom acknowledged that the restaurant offered a luxurious atmosphere.

“Yes, it’s a really nice place. It has this kind of Dubai vibe, super luxurious vibe,” he said.

However, he questioned the relationship between the high prices charged at some Lagos establishments and the earnings of workers in the city.

Tom also reviewed the acai bowl and said he found it satisfactory but not exceptional.

“Well, it’s not bad at all. It’s obviously good, but there’s just a little bit of banana and the granola is just the granola from the supermarket package,” he said.

He concluded that the meal did not justify its price, saying, “It’s nothing special, to be honest. It’s not worth 22 dollars, I’m sorry.”
