Biography

Tatum O’Neal was born in the Westwood area of Los Angeles, California on the 5th of November, 1963. She has a brother, Griffin O’Neal who is also an actor, and a half-brother, Patrick O’Neal who is an actor and sports broadcaster. In 1967, following her parents, Ryan O’Neal and Joanna More’s divorce, her father married Leigh Taylor-Young and they had her half-brother, Patrick O’Neal.

Then in 1973, the couple divorced. After then, Tatum O’Neal’s father got into a relationship with Farrah Fawcett with whom he had another son, Tatum O’Neal’s half-brother, Redmond O’Neal. At the age of 63, her mother died of lung cancer.

Early Career

At the age of ten, (April 2 1974), Tatum O’Neal won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Golden Globe Award for New Star of the Year for her role in Paper Moon (1973). She then became the youngest to ver win a competitive Academy Award. In 2010, she appeared on Drag Race.

Subsequently, Tatum O’Neal starred in films including, The Bad News Bear (1976), International Velvet (1978), Little Darlings (1980), and others. She also co-starred in Nickelodeon (1976) alongside her father, and, Circle of Two (1980). In Faerie Tale Theatre episode Goldilocks and the Three Bears, she appeared as the title character.

Later Career

In the early 2000s, Tatum O’Neal returned to acting with guest appearances in Sex and the City, 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, and, Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Five years later (2005), she repeated the role of Maggie Gavin in the Rescue Me series.

In January 2006, she participated in the second season of ABC’s reality series, Dancing with the Stars with Nick Kosovich. However, they were eliminated in the second round. Afterwards, she did commentary for the series on Entertainment Tonight, an American first-run syndicated news broadcasting newsmagazine program. From 2006 to 2007, she portrayed Blythe Hunter in Wicked Wicked Games, and she appeared in the film, My Brother (2007).

Autobiographies

In her 2004 autobiography, A Paper Life, Tatum O’Neal revealed that she was molested by her father’s drug dealer when she was just 12 years old. She also claimed to have suffered physical and emotional abuse from her father, attributing the cause to her father’s drug use. However, her father denied any of her claims ever happened. Also, Tatum, O’Neal spoke about her heroin addiction and the effect it had on her relationship with her children.

In 2011, Tatum O’Neal wrote a new collection of memoirs, Found: A Daughter’s Journey Home.

Her Arrest

On the 1st of June 2008, Tatum O’Neal was arrested for buying crack cocaine. She was searched by the police and they allegedly found two bags of drugs; one of crack cocain, and the other of powder cocaine, and also, an unused crack pipe. She was charged with a misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance but authorities released her without bail. The next day, she plead guilty to disorderly conduct in connection with the arrest and agreed to spend two half-day sessions in a drug treatment program.

Personal Life

In the late 1970s, Tatum O’Neal dated world-famous pop star, Michael Jackson, and he described her as his first love. Then in 1986, she got in a relationship with John McEnroe when she moved into his Central Park West apartment in New York City. Two years after (1986), they got married and their union produced three children; Kevin, Sean, and Emily. In 1992, the couple separated and divorced in 1994. After the divorce, Tatum O’Neal resumed intake of drugs and she developed an addiction for heroin. As a result, John McEnroe got the custody of their children in 1998.

In 2011, Tatum O’Neal and her father began to work towards reconciliation and building a new relationship. The process was captured in the short-lived Oprah Winfrey Network series, Ryan and Tatum: The O’Neals. In 2015, she confirmed that she had started dating women.
