Simi was Denied Entrance into Passport Office for Indecent Dressing
Simisola Kosoko, widely known as Simi, recently shared a story about how she faced nearly being denied entry into a passport office due to her attire.
Simi arrived at the passport office excited to get her passport done. However, to her surprise, she was denied entrance. Why? Simply because of how she was dressed. It was truly unfair.
In a video on her Instagram page, Simi shared her frustrating experience. The security guard at the entrance saw her and immediately refused her access, citing her dress as indecent. Even when they were informed of her identity, they remained unmoved.
Thankfully, a high-ranking official intervened and Simi was eventually granted entry. However, she had to comply with their demands. She had to remove her nose ring and earrings, and even cover her chest with a small scarf.
Reflecting on the incident, Simi couldn’t help but question the guard’s judgment. She carefully examined herself from head to toe and asked, “Is there anything indecent about my appearance?” The guard couldn’t find anything, yet insisted she goes back and wears something more conservative.
It’s disappointing that such incidents still occur, where personal choices in clothing can impede access to services. Nonetheless, Simi’s perseverance paid off, and she managed to accomplish her goal of getting her passport.
Simi’s story serves as a reminder that appearances should not hinder individuals from receiving the services they need. Transitioning into a more inclusive and understanding society requires empathy and fair judgment, allowing everyone to be treated with respect, regardless of their attire.
