Remi Tinubu to Host Grand Farewell Dinner for Super Falcons Ahead of FIFA World Cup
Ahead of their departure to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, the Super Falcons will be hosted a grand farewell dinner by the First Lady, Senator Remi Tinubu.
The dinner will take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja on Saturday, July 2, and will be attended by top government officials, football stakeholders, and corporate sponsors.
Remi Tinubu said she is hosting the dinner to show her support for the Super Falcons and to wish them well in the World Cup.
“I am very proud of the Super Falcons and their achievements over the years,” Tinubu said. “They are true ambassadors of Nigeria and I am confident that they will make us proud at the World Cup.”
The Super Falcons are the most successful team in the history of the African Women’s Championship, having won the title 11 times. They are also the only African team to have qualified for every FIFA Women’s World Cup.
In the 2023 World Cup, the Super Falcons are drawn in Group B alongside Australia, Canada, and the Republic of Ireland. They will kick off their campaign against Australia on July 20.
The First Lady said she is confident that the Super Falcons will make it out of their group and progress to the knockout stages.
“I know that the Super Falcons are capable of great things,” she said. “I believe that they will make it to the final and bring the trophy home to Nigeria.”
The dinner will be a chance for the Super Falcons to celebrate their achievements and to receive words of encouragement from Remi Tinubu and other guests. It will also be a chance for them to bond as a team and prepare for the challenges ahead.
While speaking in a statement, on Thursday, Head of Communications of the NFF, Ademola Olajire, noted that the dinner, organised by the country’s football body, will be held on Saturday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
“A good number of the team as well as technical and administrative officials are expected alongside the rank and file of the NFF led by the President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, and the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.
“The event at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel will also attract corporate chieftains, members of the diplomatic corps, and a range of football stakeholders.
“On Sunday, the nine-time African champions will depart the shores of Nigeria for a 15-day camping programme in Australia, before they enter into camp for the tournament beginning from July 20 to Aug. 20,” Olajire noted.
