  • APC Faces Fresh Tension as Aspirant Moves to Challenge Tinubu’s 2027 Ticket

Fresh signs of internal tension have surfaced in the All Progressives Congress (APC) after an Edo-born politician, Osifo Stanley, declared his intention to contest the party’s 2027 presidential ticket against President Bola Tinubu.

The move comes despite widespread endorsements positioning Tinubu as the party’s consensus candidate.

    Aspirant Rejects ‘Consensus’ Narrative

Speaking in Abuja, Stanley said he had already taken steps to formalise his ambition, including requesting the party’s account details to pay nomination fees.

He insisted that endorsements do not replace the constitutional process of primaries.

“I believe strongly that we all have the right to enjoy our constitutionally-guaranteed rights to run,” he said.

    ‘Endorsement Is Not a Ticket’

The aspirant argued that no provision in the APC constitution or Nigerian law allows endorsements to automatically produce a candidate.

“There is no such law in our party’s Constitution… endorsement is not a pathway to becoming the candidate,” he said.

He added that both party rules and electoral laws recognise the right of members to contest.

    Tinubu Backed by Party Structure

Stanley’s declaration comes weeks after the APC’s national convention in March, where governors, lawmakers and other stakeholders adopted Tinubu as sole candidate.

Several state chapters, including Lagos, Borno, Kebbi and Ekiti, had also endorsed the president, creating what appeared to be a unified front.

    Focus on Economy, Security

Outlining his vision, the aspirant said his campaign would prioritise economic recovery and national security.

“Our plan is to see how Nigeria can get out of lingering economic tension… the economy and security are the foundation,” he said.

The development signals early cracks within the ruling party as preparations for the 2027 election intensify across Nigeria’s political landscape.

  • Hamzat Reacts After Sanwo-Olu Endorsement, Pledges Continuity Ahead of 2027

Lagos State Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, has expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu following his endorsement as preferred successor ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

He described the gesture as a strong vote of confidence.

‘His Trust Means a Great Deal’

In a post shared on Monday, Hamzat said he was honoured by the governor’s support, noting their long-standing working relationship.

“Today, I am honoured by the endorsement of my Governor, my brother and my friend… His trust means a great deal to me,” he wrote.

He added that both leaders have worked closely in managing the affairs of Lagos State over the years.

    Pledges Continuity in Governance

Hamzat said he does not take the endorsement lightly, stressing his commitment to sustaining ongoing progress in the state.

“We’ve worked side by side in the service of Lagos State, and I don’t take this vote of confidence lightly,” he said.

He further pledged to continue delivering results if given the opportunity to lead.

“I remain committed to building on the progress we’ve made together… with integrity, focus and a clear sense of purpose,” he added.

  • Iran Proposes Deal to US to Reopen Strait of Hormuz as War Tensions Escalate

Iran has proposed a new deal to the United States, offering to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington agrees to lift its blockade on the strategic waterway.

The proposal was reported by Axios, citing a US official and two sources familiar with the matter.

Pakistan Acts as Channel for Proposal

According to the report, the offer was delivered to American authorities through Pakistan, marking a fresh attempt at indirect diplomacy between both nations.

The deal also reportedly suggests postponing nuclear negotiations to a later stage as tensions remain unresolved.

    Uncertainty Over US Response

It remains unclear whether President Donald Trump will accept the proposal, as his administration continues to insist that Iran must halt uranium enrichment as part of any agreement.

Trump has previously stated that the Strait of Hormuz would remain under pressure until Iran reaches a broader deal with the United States.

Strategic Waterway at Centre of Conflict

The Strait of Hormuz has remained a key flashpoint in the ongoing conflict involving Iran and US-Israel aligned forces since hostilities escalated earlier this year.

Iran’s earlier restrictions on the waterway disrupted global oil supply, leading to price increases and energy conservation measures in several countries.

The US blockade, meanwhile, aims to restrict Iran’s oil exports and limit its access to revenue.

    Global Impact and Rising Casualties

The wider conflict has resulted in thousands of deaths across Iran, Lebanon, Israel, and parts of the Gulf region, with both military and civilian casualties reported.

Efforts to reach a diplomatic resolution have so far stalled despite continued backchannel engagements.

Trump to Review Situation in Security Meeting

President Donald Trump is expected to hold a Situation Room meeting on Monday with senior national security and foreign policy officials to assess the latest developments and possible next steps.

  • Shehu Sani Says Peter Obi Support Is ‘Drama’, Backs Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has dismissed the growing support for former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing it as “drama” driven by tribal sentiments.

He also insisted that President Bola Tinubu is on course to secure re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Comments on ‘The Honest Bunch Podcast’

Sani made the remarks during an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he featured alongside activist Deji Adeyanju in a discussion on Nigeria’s political climate and leadership.

He argued that many of Obi’s supporters are driven by ethnic loyalty rather than national interest.

“The support for Peter Obi is drama, many of those supporting him and those who come from his ethnic background,” Sani said.

He added that even if Obi becomes president, “nothing changes.”

    ‘Same Ideological Class’ Claim

The former lawmaker also downplayed ideological differences among major political figures, placing Obi, Atiku Abubakar, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and President Tinubu in the same political category.

“Obi, Obasanjo, Atiku, and Tinubu are people who come from the same ideological perspective,” he said.

Sani further insisted that Tinubu remains the frontrunner ahead of 2027, adding that Nigerians are faced with limited political choices.

“The choice we have is between Satan and the devil,” he stated.

Comments on Insecurity and Past Senate Experience

Reflecting on insecurity in the country, Sani recalled his time in the Senate, alleging that his interventions on killings and kidnappings were often met with resistance from fellow northern lawmakers.

“When I was in the Senate, each time I stood up to speak about the killings and kidnappings of my people, the first attack I got was from Northern senators,” he said.

Speaking during a special prayer session at the Government House in Kano, the governor said he neither approved nor had prior knowledge of the activity.

“We were going about our normal activities when I was informed that some young women displayed inappropriate items. I was not aware of it,” he said.

    Condemns Display as ‘Inappropriate’

Yusuf described the act as unacceptable, stressing that it contradicts the cultural and religious values of the state.

“Such actions are against our culture and the teachings of Islam, and we strongly condemn them,” he added.

    Controversy Trails Viral Videos

The display had earlier been linked to an alleged empowerment initiative, with reports suggesting it was backed by the state government.

However, the governor’s reaction has now distanced the administration from the development.

  • Apostle Suleman Slams Leaders Over Re-election Push, Says “Performance, Not Promises” Should Decide Votes

Senior pastor of Omega Fire Ministries, Johnson Suleman, has criticised Nigeria’s political leadership, questioning the push for re-election amid ongoing hardship across the country.

He said performance, not promises, should determine who Nigerians support.

    Questions Re-election Ambitions

Suleman argued that leaders who failed to deliver in their first term should not expect another mandate.

“During your first four years in office, you did nothing, and now you want Nigerians to vote for you again? Don’t vote for them. Performance is the best form of campaign,” he said.

He also accused some politicians of weakening opposition parties instead of focusing on governance.

    Highlights Hardship, Insecurity

The cleric pointed to rising economic challenges and insecurity, saying many Nigerians are struggling to meet basic needs.

“We are not asking for too much… all we need are basic amenities, affordable food items, security, and steady electricity,” he stated.

    Raises Concern Over Mass Migration

Suleman further highlighted the growing number of Nigerians leaving the country, linking it to safety concerns.

“Thousands of people are leaving… not because they want too much wealth, but because they want safety,” he said.

He added that the system was now turning against him.

    ‘System Is Dealing With You’

Sowore, who has had several confrontations with authorities in the past, insisted that the justice system affects both critics and former officials.

“There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now,” he said.

During the exchange, he also offered Malami a symbolic “revolutionary cap.”

    Malami Responds Briefly

Malami, in a short reply, maintained that he remained strong and committed to the legal process.
