  • EFCC Arraigns Blessing CEO Over Alleged ₦36m Fraud In Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned popular social media influencer and self-acclaimed relationship therapist Blessing CEO over an alleged ₦36 million fraud case.

Blessing CEO, whose real name is Okoro Blessing Nkiruka, was arraigned on Friday before Justice D.I. Dipeolu at the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.

    EFCC Files Two-Count Charge

According to the anti-graft agency, the influencer is facing a two-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence and alleged theft.

The EFCC alleged that Blessing CEO fraudulently obtained ₦36 million from one Mrs Ifeyinwa Nonye Okoye between July 14 and 17, 2024.

According to the charge, the money was allegedly collected under the pretence of leasing a six-bedroom detached duplex located at No. 1B Tunbosun Osobu Street, off Kuboye Road, Lekki, Lagos State.

The commission said the representation was false and contrary to the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

    Defence Mentions Refund Of ₦24m

During proceedings, defence counsel P.I. Nwafor informed the court that the defendant had already refunded ₦24 million to the petitioner.

“We are asking for a short adjournment to resolve the outstanding balance,” the lawyer told the court.

He also stated that the nominal complainant had allegedly agreed to prevail on the EFCC to discontinue the matter if the remaining balance was paid.

However, prosecuting counsel S.I. Suleiman opposed the request, insisting that the Federal Government of Nigeria remained the complainant in the criminal case.

“We are here for the arraignment. We urge that the defendant take her plea,” the prosecutor said.

    Court Orders Remand

Justice Dipeolu ruled that discussions between the defendant and the complainant would not stop the criminal proceedings before the court.

The judge subsequently directed Blessing CEO to take her plea.

She pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following the plea, the prosecution asked the court to remand her in a correctional facility pending trial.

Her lawyer, however, requested that she be kept in EFCC custody pending the perfection of her bail conditions.

Justice Dipeolu granted the request and ordered that the influencer be remanded in EFCC custody.

The matter was adjourned till June 5, 2026, for commencement of trial.

According to a report by Bloomberg, the 10-bedroom property is located in the prestigious St John’s Wood district near Regent’s Park in London.

    Luxury Mansion Features Cinema, Spa

Reports indicated that the mansion was built in 2016 and comes with several luxury facilities including a private cinema, spa and cigar room.

The property was reportedly listed for sale in 2020 with an initial asking price of £75 million before the recent acquisition.

A filing in the United Kingdom was also said to have confirmed the purchase, although representatives of the billionaire businessman reportedly declined to comment on the deal.

The acquisition comes amid continued activity in London’s luxury housing market despite increasing taxes and policy changes affecting foreign residents.

According to reports, sales of properties valued above £5 million reportedly declined by 28 percent in the first quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025.

Despite the drop, several mega property deals above £20 million have still been completed this year.

  • World Bank Restricts Instagram Comments Amid Backlash Over Fresh $1.25bn Nigeria Loan

The World Bank has restricted comments on its Instagram page following widespread backlash from Nigerians over plans by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to secure a fresh $1.25 billion loan facility.

The reactions followed reports that the Federal Government had intensified discussions with the World Bank over a new loan package aimed at supporting economic reforms and job creation.

    Debt Concerns Trigger Reactions

According to figures released by the Debt Management Office, Nigeria’s total public debt for both federal and state governments rose to ₦159.27 trillion as of the fourth quarter of 2025.

President Tinubu also disclosed on Tuesday that Nigeria would spend about $11.6 billion on debt servicing in 2026.

The figure represents a sharp increase compared to the $5.21 billion reportedly spent on external debt servicing in 2025, based on data from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

The president stated that almost half of Nigeria’s projected revenue for 2026 would go toward debt servicing under the current global financial structure.

    Nigerians Flood World Bank Page

Following the development, Nigerians stormed the World Bank’s Instagram page, urging the institution to stop approving loans for Nigeria.

Many social media users accused government officials of mismanaging and diverting borrowed funds meant for economic development.

Screenshots circulating online showed hundreds of comments from Nigerians lamenting rising inflation, economic hardship, insecurity, unemployment and worsening living conditions.

“Dear @WorldBankGroup, why did you lock your comments section on Instagram? Nigerians are telling you to stop giving our criminal leaders billions in loans that only gets stolen,” one user wrote.

Others warned that continued borrowing could push Nigeria deeper into a debt crisis while allegedly empowering corrupt political elites.

“They want to give so much loan that the country won’t be able to pay back, so they can control our resources,” another user wrote.

“Stop giving Tinubu loans, he is not using it for the citizens,” another comment read.

    World Bank Yet To Respond

As of the time of filing this report, the World Bank had not issued any official statement addressing the backlash or confirming whether the comment restrictions were linked to the reactions from Nigerians.

The development comes amid growing public concern over Nigeria’s rising debt profile and the economic impact of ongoing reforms introduced by the Tinubu administration.

  • Gbajabiamila Reveals How Desmond Elliot Nearly Cost Him Chief of Staff Position Amid Obasa Crisis

Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he almost lost his position during the political crisis that rocked the Lagos State House of Assembly over the speakership tussle involving Mudashiru Obasa.

Gbajabiamila made the disclosure on Thursday during a constituency stakeholders’ meeting in Lagos while addressing the controversy surrounding actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliot.

Tinubu Confronted Me Over Desmond Elliot

According to Gbajabiamila, President Tinubu personally summoned him to Abuja during the peak of the Assembly crisis over allegations linking Desmond Elliot to moves aimed at destabilising the Lagos Assembly leadership.

“I almost lost my job because of Desmond Elliot last year. You can go and verify,” he said.

He explained that the President questioned him directly because of his close political relationship with the Surulere lawmaker.

“Mr President called me to his study in Abuja and said, ‘I hear this Desmond is your boy.’ I said, ‘Yes, sir.’ He then said Desmond was among those causing problems in the Lagos State House of Assembly,” Gbajabiamila stated.

    I Defended Him Before Tinubu

The Chief of Staff said he immediately defended Elliot before the President, insisting that the lawmaker was not among those allegedly involved in attempts to destabilise the Assembly leadership.

“I told the President that Desmond was not part of them, but the President insisted and told me to call him to order,” he added.

Gbajabiamila disclosed that after the meeting, he reached out to Elliot and warned him to avoid being linked to the crisis in any way.

“Three days later, the Director-General called me and said there was a serious issue, that my name was everywhere as the person supporting Desmond to push for impeachment,” he said.

    Gbajabiamila Says Elliot Ignored Advice

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives further claimed he instructed Elliot to publicly deny involvement in the alleged impeachment plot, but the lawmaker failed to do so.

“I told Desmond to go and make a public statement that he was not part of them, but till today he has not done that,” he stated.

Gbajabiamila added that his long-standing relationship with President Tinubu eventually helped him survive the controversy.

“If not for the kind of relationship I have with the President today, I probably would not still be here as Chief of Staff,” he said.

    Fresh Political Battle Looms

The revelation comes amid reports that Gbajabiamila is backing Barakat Odunuga-Bakare against Desmond Elliot ahead of the next political contest for the Surulere constituency seat under the ruling APC.

The Lagos Assembly crisis surrounding Mudashiru Obasa generated widespread political tension within the APC and sparked debates over power struggles within the party structure in the state.

  • Justice Crack’s Bail Hearing Stalls After Lawyers Clash in Abuja Court

Popular Nigerian blogger and social media influencer Chidiebere Justice Mark, widely known as Justice Crack, remained in DSS custody on Thursday after confusion among his defense lawyers forced the Federal High Court in Abuja to adjourn his bail hearing.

The hearing, held before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, ended abruptly after two lawyers announced separate appearances for the defendant, creating disagreement over who should officially lead the defense team.

    Drama Over Legal Representation

Barrister Marshal Abubakar, who earlier filed the pending bail application, appeared in court alongside another lawyer, Olufemi Balogun, who also claimed representation for Justice Crack.

The situation escalated after the influencer reportedly informed the court that Balogun would take charge of his defense moving forward.

Following the development, Abubakar withdrew from the case and also withdrew the bail application he had previously filed on behalf of the defendant.

With no active bail application before the court, Justice Abdulmalik struck out the processes filed by the former counsel, effectively halting the hearing.

    AGF Takes Over Prosecution

During proceedings, a representative from the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation informed the court that the AGF had officially taken over the prosecution of the matter.

Balogun later told the court that he would file a fresh bail application for the defendant.

The judge subsequently adjourned the case to Monday, May 18, 2026, for hearing of the new application. She also directed the prosecution to open its case on the next adjourned date or risk the matter being struck out for lack of diligent prosecution.

How Justice Crack Landed in DSS Custody

Justice Crack was arrested in April after a viral video in which he criticised feeding conditions and welfare treatment of Nigerian soldiers.

The DSS later charged him with alleged cybercrime-related offences, including circulating false information and publishing materials considered capable of causing unrest.

He was arraigned on May 4 before the Federal High Court in Abuja on a three-count charge and pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

The court then ordered that he be remanded in DSS custody pending trial and consideration of his bail request.

    Supporters Shut Out of Courtroom

Outside the courtroom, supporters, associates, and activists gathered in solidarity with the influencer.

Reports from the court premises indicated that several friends and sympathizers were denied access into the courtroom during proceedings.

Clips circulating across social media also showed reactions to the disagreement among members of the defense team, with many Nigerians describing the situation as unfortunate and avoidable.

    Public Attention Grows

The case has continued to attract national attention due to wider debates around freedom of expression, military welfare, and online criticism in Nigeria.

Justice Crack is expected to remain in DSS custody until the next hearing scheduled for May 18.
