Ogun State APC governorship aspirant Abayomi Hunye has questioned the party’s claim that he was suspended before it collected ₦50 million from him for nomination forms and subsequently cleared him for the 2027 governorship primary.
Hunye made the claim on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as the dispute over the APC governorship ticket continues.
Hunye Questions APC’s Suspension Claim
Hunye said the APC told him he had been suspended on April 7, 2026, but later collected money from him for nomination forms.
“The first thing they said yesterday was that ‘I’ve been suspended.’ They said I was suspended on April 7. How can you suspend me on April 7, and on April 28, you collected money from me and gave me a form?” he asked.
He said he obtained both the expression of interest and nomination forms, completed and returned them to the party and retained the receipt for the payment.
Hunye added that he appeared as number 52 on the screening list and was recognised as a valid aspirant during the APC governorship primary held on May 21, 2026.
APC Disowns Hunye
The APC national leadership has rejected Hunye’s claim, describing him as a suspended member and an “impostor” who has no authority to represent the party or claim its governorship ticket.
According to the party, Hunye was suspended on April 7 following a petition from Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area over alleged anti-party activities and conduct considered injurious to the party’s image.
The suspension was subsequently ratified by the Ipokia Local Government Area and the Ogun State Working Committee before being communicated to the party’s national headquarters.
Adeola Remains APC Candidate
The APC has reaffirmed Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its duly nominated governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election.
Balogun Kudirat Abiodun is his running mate.
Party officials maintain that Adeola emerged from a valid primary election and that his particulars have been submitted through the Independent National Electoral Commission portal, with official acknowledgements issued.
APC Seeks Police, DSS Action
The dispute escalated after the APC national secretariat petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services over Hunye’s continued claim to the party’s ticket.
The party requested that Hunye be investigated, arrested and prosecuted over alleged impersonation and related offences.
Hunye, however, maintains that he remains in the race and has challenged aspects of the primary process in court. He had also previously denied receiving proper formal notification of his alleged suspension.
The disagreement leaves the Ogun APC facing a continuing internal dispute over its 2027 governorship ticket, with the party insisting on Adeola while Hunye pursues his challenge through legal and public channels.
