Biography
Nina Dobrev was born on the 9th of January, 1989 in Sofia, Bulgaria. Her father, Kamen Dobrev was a computer specialist while her mother, Michaela Dobreva was an artist. She also has an older brother. When Nina Dobrev was 2, her family relocated to Canada and was raised in Scarborough, Toronto. And at the age of 10, she moved back to Bulgaria with her mother for two years.
Nina Dobrev attended Vrandenburg Junior Public School and J.B. Tyrell Sr. Public School. While she was in school, she took ballet and jazz classes and also competed in rhythmic gymnastics. Also, she took acting classes at Armstrong Acting Studios in Toronto. Afterwards, she attended the arts program at Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts in Scarborough until her graduation.
Nina Dobrev had her post-secondary studies at the then Ryerson University (now Toronto Metropolitan University) in Toronto. There, she majored in Sociology but couldn’t graduate because of her acting career pursuit.
Early Career
Nina Dobrev had her first major acting role as Mia in Degrassi: The Next Generation a role she played for three seasons, starting in 2006. In the mid-2000s, she appeared in several films including Fugitive Pieces (2007), and Away From Her (2007). She also headlined some TV films including Never Cry Werewolf (2008), and, The American Mall (2008).
In 2009, Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries and she repeatedly played a 500-year-old doppelgänger vampire, Katherine Pierce. Then in season 5, she played the Petrova doppelgänger progenitor Amara known as the world’s first immortal. Afterwards, she moved to The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Original as doppelgänger character Tatia in a 2014 episode. In April 2015, Nina Dobrev announced on her Instagram page that she would be leaving The Vampire Diaries after playing Elena for six seasons. Then in January 2017, it was announced that she would return as Elena and Katherine in the series’ finale.
Nina Dobrev had a minor role in Chloe and a small role in The Roommate (2011).

Later Career
In April 2011, Nina Dobrev was cast as Candace Kelmeckis in The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Then in August 2014, she starred in Let’s Be Cops. She played Vicki Summers in The Final Girls (a 2015 horror comedy film). In September 2015, she was cast in Arrivals as Izzy, a flight attendant. Later on, the film was retitled Departures and was scheduled to go into production in April 2017. In the same year, she was cast in Crash Pad (a romantic comedy) which began filming in Vancouver in 2015.
Nina Debrov co-starred as weapons specialist, Becky Clearidge in XXX: Return of Xander Cage. The film grossed up to $346 million worldwide and it was named her most successful film. The same year, she co-starred in the remake of Flatliners as Marlo.
In March 2018, she was cast as Clem in Fam, a CBS sitcom pilot picked up to series in May of the same year, and the film premiered on January 10, 2019. Unfortunately, the serie was short-lived as it was canceled on May 10, 2019 after one season. Nina Dobrev then starred as Chloe in Lucky Day released in the same year. In July 2020, it was announced that she would star in and also be an executive producer for the TV adaptation of the Woman 99 book series.

Nina Dobrev has a history of supporting philanthropic organisations, such as Hunger Bites, an organisation that works to end hunger in 27 districts across Pennsylvania, and Puma’s 2011 non-profit Project Pink, which supports a number of breast cancer charities.
