The year 2021 is not yet over, but it has been a great year for some of our favorite Nigerian celebrities, as some of them married this year.

Most Nigerians who walked down the aisle with their partners this year shut down the internet, as some came as a surprise, and some were expected, but all was an extravagant wedding attended by dignitaries and celebrities from across the country.

Let us go on a journey together as we look at the Nigerian weddings that blew up the internet this year.

  1. Debola Lagos and Kehinde Daniels

Media Personality, Adebola Lagos popularly called “Red Cap”, and daughter of former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniels, The couple got married in a lavish wedding on the 7th of August, 2021 in Lagos.

On their joint instagram, the couple wrote “You’ve brought light into my life and by God, it can only get brighter. ❤️ Get your sunshades guys. It’s time #kdlagos2021 ?”.

According to an interview with Mr. and Mrs. on The Will Downtown Magazine, the couple stated that they first met in Abeokuta in August 2020, and got engaged four months later, in November.

Stars present at the wedding include Lala Akindoju, Tola Odunsi, Kemi Adetiba, Waje, Omawumi, Noble Igwe, Bovi, Timi Dakolo, Daniel Etim-Effiong, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, Ini Edo, Toke Makinwa, Ini dima-Okojie, Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Mimi Onalaja, Chioma Akpotha, Toolz, Cynthia Obi-Uchendu, Kaffy, Omoni Oboli, Ufuoma McDermott, Chigul, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Banky W, Ubi Franklin, M.I Abaga, Sola Sobowale, Busola Dakolo, Capt Demuren, Shaffy Bello, and Joselyn Dumas.

2. Yusuf Buhari and Zahra Bayero

Yusuf Buhari, the only surviving son of President Muhammadu Buhari got married to his lover, Zahra Nasir Bayero, niece of the Emir of Kano on 20th of August, 2021 in Kano.

The star-studded wedding was attended by the high and mighty which incudes The wife of the Gambian president, Mrs. Fatoumata Ban Barrow, and the Gambian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mrs. Bintou Njie, Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan and wife, Patience Jonathan were also in attendance.

Thousands were said to attend the wedding which took place in Kano at the palace of the Emri of Bichi.

According to the BBC, the groom’s family paid 500,000 naira (£900) for the bride, which is approximately ten times the average amount in northern Nigeria.

3. Toyin Lawani and Segun Wealth

Toyin Lawani got married to her husband Segun Wealth in Lagos on Saturday, June 12.

Toyin is a celebrity stylist, and a Nigerian fashion entrepreneur. their wedding was full of glamour and glitz as they had lots of celebrities in the entertainment industry grace the occasion.

Some of the celebrities pictured at the wedding include Mercy Aigbe, Iyabo Ojo, Pretty Mike, Anita Joseph, Yomi Casual, Alex Ekubo, IK Ogbonna etc.

4. Yetunde Barnabas and Peter Olayinka

Nollywood actress, Yetunde Barnabas and Super Eagles Star, Peter Olayinka are also among the list of couples that walked the aisle this year.

Yetunde in an interview narrated how they met, she said “Three years ago (March 2018). He saw a couple of my movies, became a fan and secret admirer. Then reached out to me through a friend of his who is also my senior colleague in the industry.

We spoke a couple of times and actually became friends before we finally met physically on the 29th of May 2018. At the sight of him I became love struck and then tables turned”

5. Ikechukwu and Ella

Ikechukwu, one of Nigeria’s most talented rappers, married Ella, a model on May 22, 2021.

Spotted at the wedding all decked out in their Aso-Ebi were Praiz, D’banj, Wofai Fada, Naeto C, Sola Sobowale, Don Jazzy, Richard Nnadi, Omawumi, Waje and more.

The wedding was also a platform for the Mohits crew who reunited at the wedding.
