Who is Kunle Poly, the popular NURTW chieftain in Lagos

Kunle Poly is a popular leader of the  National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW in Lagos State. His real name is Abdulazeez Adekunle Lawal and was born March 23, 1974.

Who is Kunle Poly?

Kunle Poly is an indigene of Ìsàlè-Èkó village in Lagos State, Nigeria.

He got his alias when he returned to Lagos after his ND programme in 1996 in Kwara Polytechnic. Within a twinkle of an eye, his friends and family members started calling him Kunle Poly.

He is quite wealthy, though his wealth is not easy to evaluate. He  lives an extravagant lifestyle. As one of the heads of the NURTW in a big state like Lagos, it’s not hard to assume the appreciable amount of money to be made in the busy city road – probably the busiest road in the country

How Kunle Poly Joined NURTW

He has been in the NURTW for 16 years now. Kunle Poly started his NURTW membership under the leadership of Alhaji Shina Ajayi. He was the Assistant Organising Secretary of Ehin Eyo Unit then.

From there, he moved into a full-time transport business. He was driving a bus and he bought buses for fellow drivers to empower them and they delivered returns to him. He also bought for others to pay back in instalments. Later, he came to Idumota where he is now. Kunle Poly has now risen to be a prominent chieftain in the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW.

Kunle Poly established the Kunle Poly Foundation to constantly empower the less privileged ones in society. He uses his Foundation as a vehicle for charity.

Who is Kunle Poly’s Wife

Olayinka Lawal Lmerica is the wife of Kunle Poly. She is a Nigerian actress. Olayinka got married to the transport Union boss a few years ago. Kunle Poly tied the knot in grand style with Olayinka Lamerica in Lagos. The event was graced by colleagues, family, and friends.

His death Rumour

A long time ago in 2018, Kunle Poly escaped death from some assassins. He was with his personal assistant, Ganiu, when this incident occurred. During the incident, his personal assistant was shot dead by some gunmen. It happened in the Idumota area of Lagos State.

It was reported that  Kunle Poly’s PA, Ganiu, alias Piero was was returning from a meeting around midnight with Kunle Poly and some security men, including 2 police officers when the gunmen opened fire towards them. Unfortunately, Ganiu was hit by some bullets and died on the spot. Others were injured as they fled from the fatal incident.

There was a source that revealed that some hoodlums from the Agarawu area were suspects. The attack was brutal.

According to the source, Kunle the head of the NURTW branches at Idumota, Lagos called a meeting. The meeting involves all chairmen of motor parks within the area. The meeting was concluded around 12 a.m.

After the meeting, Kunle, Piero (his P.A), 2 police officers, and a member of the union lefts for his car parked close to the office. Kunle was said to collect the car key from Piero stating that he would like to drive it by himself.

This meant Piero sat at the passenger’s seat while Kunle Poly was in the driver’s seat. They were about to move when the sound of gunshots took over the area. Piero was hit by some bullets and died. The union member with them also got shit on his hand. The police officers were about to return with some shooting both they were overpowered by the gunmen.

Why Kunle Poly Was Arrested in 2022

Recall that commercial activities were paralyzed in Idumota, last week, following the renewed clash over an argument on which group should collect tolls from commercial bus drivers and motorcyclists at Eyin Eyo unit.

However, the two leaders of the warring group, Kunle and Mustapha Sego were invited to the office of the Rapid Response Squad, RRS, yesterday, from where they were arrested for allegedly fuelling the crisis and their inability to checkmate the excesses of their subordinates.

Similarly, those armed with dangerous objects during the free-for-all fight, as captured by a video that went viral on social media, have reportedly been identified.
