Eid al-Fitr

As Muslims gradually approach the end of the holy month of Ramadan, there will equally be preparations for the Eid al-Fitr 2022 holidays that follow.

One important question probably bothering the mind of faithfuls all over the world is how to celebrate the Eid al-Fitr holiday which is only a few days away. It would be great to remember this year’s Eid al-Fitr holiday as one of the best if you don’t repeat the rituals of the previous years. There are more unique ways to celebrate and add spice to your holiday.

A great way to start would be to understand what this holiday really represents.

What does Eid al-Fitr Mean?

Eid al-Fitr is a holiday celebration that marks the end of the Holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month in the Muslim calendar. Eid al-Fitr is translated in English as “the feast of fast-breaking”. The celebration is mostly elaborate; families come together to celebrate, pray in mosques and feast together.

The holiday ranges from one to three days, depending on the country. In Nigeria, the national Eid holiday in 2022 is expected to be celebrated on May 3rd and 4th.

Unique Ways to Celebrate the Holidays

1. Reconnect With Long-lost Friends and Relatives

relatives

The primary purpose of the Eid al-Fitr holidays would be defeated without the inclusion of this all-important plan. As mentioned earlier, the holidays are meant for family gatherings too. During the celebration, families visit one another, children wear new clothes and receive gifts from the elderly ones. If you have ever wondered why grandchildren visit their grandparents during the Eid al-Fitr celebration, there you have your reason.

However, one way to make your visits unique this season is to visit relatives you haven’t seen in a long time. This is not to say you should completely rule out the relatives you see often. Instead, look through your phonebook and choose friends and relatives who would be super excited to have you around. This may take an inter-city or inter-state travel but they would be worth the effort.

2. Plan a Staycation

The best part of having a staycation is that you do not have to break the bank. A Staycation basically involves you planning an “indoor vacation“. One thing you need this holiday is adequate rest and the utmost fun. Contrary to popular belief, staycations are not for introverts alone. Sometimes, it’s the best way to get rest and fun simultaneously; not to mention its financial benefits.

Instead of having to deal with traffic and other road “noises” when you go out, why not bring the fun indoors. During the fast, many, if not every Muslim, continued with day-to-day activities which includes a 9-to-5, running businesses, e.t.c. It would be wise to not engage in too many activities that will drain your energy. There’s still life after the holidays and you do not want to resume fagged out.

Here’s a guide on how to plan your Eid al-Fitr 2022 staycation:

  • Stay Inside (not just physically but psychologically): Remember it’s a staycation (Indoor Vacation), so you should really be indoors. However, you should also keep your mind away from disturbing news online and on TV. If you must watch anything, you need something relaxing like a soothing movie.
  • A long nice nap wouldn’t hurt: If you’re a workaholic or you barely get enough sleep, your body needs this. It’s not just about your wants; consider your needs too.
  • Try out a DIY project: You probably have screenshots of many DIY projects you would try out “if only you had enough time”. Here’s a limited opportunity. Take the chance!
  • Invite friends over: Yes, it’s a staycation but having a few friends around wouldn’t hurt. Pick a game you would all enjoy, have a cooking competition, and have a nice dish delivered to your doorstep (in case your cooking competition goes wrong).
  • Don’t forget to stock your refrigerator with your favourite food and drinks.

If you need reasons to plan a staycation, the first reason is that every holiday has an end and then you’re back to “work as usual”. You may as well take the rest you need while still having fun alongside. However, if you’re naturally an indoor person and have always been celebrating the holidays this way, then the next option is uniquely crafted for you.

3. Go on a Vacation With Friends and Family

Eid al-Fitr holidays are often celebrated in family houses with family and friends but this year, you can make it unique by taking family and friends out on a vacation. A vacation doesn’t necessarily have to be a very far place. Considering the duration of this holiday, you don’t need to choose a vacation site where you’ll spend most of your holiday on the road. Also, you don’t have to do all the spending; you can plan with family and friends. Here are a few interesting places to visit in Nigeria.

4. See a Movie
