Buchi Atuonwu is a well-known Nigerian Reggae Gospel Singer and he is set to go on the mission of uniting different denominations of Christendom through music; he considers this an assignment and his life purpose. In his recent IG post, he explained that he is on a mission to bring Christians together for the first National Hymn Festival slated for the 22nd of November, 2022 in Lagos. Also, Buchi would not be the only one on this mission as he has other gospel singers such as Panam Percy Paul, Joe Praize, and Ada beside him. Speaking on the purpose of this mission, Buchi stated that they want to bring alive one of the sayings of Jesus in the Bible which goes thus, “…that they may be one as we are one…”.

The plan for the event is to have representatives from various churches that would make up to 2,022-person choir that would sing timeless hymns that inspired generations of Christians. He also confirmed that the Catholic Church, the Pentecostal Fellowship, ECWA, the white garment churches, and other denominations interested would be fully represented.

Furthermore, the team also made available prizes to be won, ranging from ₦2 million and a trophy for the winner, plaques, cash prizes and trophies for the second and third runner-ups, and consolation awards for every other participant.

Buchi Atuonwu speaking on his reason for going on this mission clarifies that he is doing this as a patriot. He confirms that God had revealed to him things to do to reunite the church. According to him, “I know that the unity of the church is not about belonging to an association, as beautiful as that may be. That is not what the Bible means by the unity of the church”.

He further states that the unity of the church can only come through the knowledge of the word of God and that may not happen due to the different teachings and doctrines of various denominations. He said, “How is that going to happen if you teach a different thing and I teach a different thing, and there is no platform for us or our members to share, grow and investigate the Word; even interrogate the teachings of one another?”
