Ayra Starr is the new fish in the Marvin Records’ ocean. Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, who is popularly known as Ayra Starr is a talented Nigerian singer, songwriter and model who was born in Cotonou to a Nigerian parent on the 14th of June 2002.

She began to grow some interest in fashion at the age of 16 Quove Model Management before deciding to pursue music. After covering several songs by popular artists on Instagram, she posted her first original song on her page in December 2019. This brought her to the attention of record executive Don Jazzy and led to her signing to Mavin Records.

When asked the origins of her stage name, Ayra Starr said, “I’ve always wanted to be a star.”

With the hype following her self-titled EP and now her debut album, 19 & Dangerous, that dream is being realised. Confident and intentional, the Gen-Z Nigerian artist is rising to prominence – this week saw her release the impressive self-directed video for single ‘Bloody Samaritan’.

But still, there’s more to Ayra’s moniker than ambitions of fame. The singer is also proudly socially conscious. “Ayra is an Arabic name,” she explains over a video call, adding, “It means someone who is highly respected, woke, open-minded.”

In early 2021, Ayra Starr achieved mainstream recognition with her eponymous debut extended play and its hit track “Away” which spent two consecutive weeks at number four on Nigeria’s TurnTable Top 50 and went to number 17 on US Billboard Top Thriller Global, paving the way for the release of her first full-length studio album, 19 & Dangerous in 6th August 2021.

Categorized mainly as Afropop and R&B, the album has been met with favourable critical reception. It spawned two top forty hits in Nigeria. The lead single “Bloody Samaritan” peaked atop the Top 50 chart, becoming the first solo song by a female artist to reach the number-one position.

Ayra Starr debuted on the Pandora Predictions chart, and on 28 August 2021, she ranked number two on Billboards Next Big Sound.

Although there are no obvious views about her net worth, she is estimated to worth around at $250,000. More so, Ayra Starr was signed by Pepsi as their brand ambassador.

Ayra Starr was nominated for the 2021 MOBO Awards! Just under four years since she was activated Ayra. ”This is phenomenal, ” Don Jazzy said.

Although She’s not one of the top 10 richest musicians in Nigeria, and Ayra Starr’s career is just less than four years and even with a career with such a short span, she has managed to get recognition in the music industry.

She received a nomination from the Net Honors Awards in 2021 in the category of Most Played R&B Song. Also in 2021, the musician performed at the season finale of the popular Nigerian talent show Nigerian Idol.
