An X user has called on African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race and endorse Peter Obi, arguing that multiple opposition candidates could divide votes.

The user, @RedGenius05, made the call on September 3, 2026, in a post accompanied by a video of a man speaking directly to the camera.

User Calls For Opposition Unity

The X user, who describes himself as a chemist, quality manager and #Obidient supporter, wrote: “My advice for Sowore is to step down and endorse Peter Obi for 2027 election.”

He argued that Sowore’s participation could reduce Obi’s chances by dividing votes among opposition supporters.

The post had attracted limited engagement shortly after publication, with fewer than 200 views and one reply.

Sowore Running Under AAC

Sowore, an activist and publisher of Sahara Reporters, was adopted as the AAC’s consensus presidential candidate in May 2026.

He previously contested the presidency in 2019 and 2023 under the same party and has maintained that he is “running to win.”

His candidacy has remained distinct from other opposition platforms, with the AAC presenting its political agenda as an alternative focused on radical economic and political reforms.

Obi Emerges NDC Candidate

Obi, a former Anambra State governor who finished third in the 2023 presidential election as the Labour Party candidate, is contesting the 2027 election under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

He has begun his campaign and outlined an economic agenda centred on production, jobs and national development.

Discussions about possible opposition alliances have continued, with supporters of Obi arguing that a united opposition could improve its chances against the ruling party.
