Bishop Thomas Aremu has advised husbands to give their wives money and provide adequately for their needs, saying financial support can strengthen affection and peace in marriage.

The cleric gave the advice while speaking at a conference, urging men who have the means to spend on their wives, especially women who also care for the children.

‘Give Them Money’

Aremu said husbands should not hesitate to give their wives money when they can afford it.

“Women like money. So if you have money, spend it on them oh. Are you hearing me? And take care of them, give them money. Is she not taking care of the children? And she will like you,” he said.

He encouraged men to recognise the responsibilities their wives carry in the home and support them financially rather than leaving them to struggle alone.

Bishop Shares Experience With His Wife

The bishop also spoke about how he responds when his own wife makes financial requests.

He said he gives her money even when he initially questions the need for what she wants.

“If my wife is asking for anything, even though I feel, for what? If she insists, I will give her money,” Aremu said.

He explained that he does so partly to maintain peace and because she is his wife.

“Number one, to have rest. Number two, she is my wife, she is not everybody else’s wife. And I have the money,” he added.

‘Take Care of Her’

Aremu further urged husbands not to dismiss their wives’ requests simply because they consider certain items unnecessary.

Using gold as an example, he said men should not immediately reject their wives’ desire to buy jewellery.

“She may see one gold now and say she want to buy. Don’t say canality. No. The street of heaven is made of gold. So it doesn’t destroy godliness,” he said.

He ended his advice by urging husbands who have the financial capacity to take care of their wives and support them in the home.
