After the confirmation of Ada Ameh’s death by the Actors Guild of Nigeria, fans and colleagues of the late actress have been thrown into mourning.

Who is Ada Ameh?

The Nigerian actress was a film star who came into the limelight in 1996 after bagging the major role in the movie, “Domitilla”. She was a native of Idoma, Benue State but grew up in Ajegunle, Lagos State in Nigeria where she schooled.

She was born on May 15, 1974 and was an active actor from 1996-2022.

Here are 7 things to know about Ada Ameh.

1. She Came into the Limelight in 1996

Ameh’s journey into Nollywood began way before 1996, however, that was the year that saw her step into the limelight. Ada auditioned for a role in the movie, Domitilla and bagged it after a successful audition. The role earned her a place with popular Nigerian actress, Kate Henshaw along with some other big names in the industry.

After the huge success of Domitilla, Ada gained popularity and was sought after for other movies.

2. She had a daughter at the age of 14

Ada Ameh had to drop out of school at the age of 14 following her pregnancy. The birth of her daughter, however, did not stop her from achieving greatness in life as the actress got several accolades and awards during her lifetime.

There were no records of the late actress going back to school after this incident.

3. She lost her daughter in 2020

2020 was not a great year for the actress and her fans and colleagues as the internet went crazy over the loss of Ada’s 31-year-old daughter.

Aladi Godgift died after undergoing a surgical operation in Abuja in October 2020. After this incident, Ameh revealed that the death of her only child resulted in a mental breakdown for her.

Since the death of Godgift, she has made several posts in remembrance of her including her posthumous birthday.

4. She battled depression before her death

A few weeks ago, the actress revealed in a Tv interview that she was depressed. Speaking with hosts of TVC’s “Your View”, Ameh disclosed that she battled depression before the loss of her child and the incident only worsened her situation.

She said she was in constant touch with her doctor due to frequent issues pertaining to her mental health.

5. She lost all her siblings and was scared of dying too.

In the interview, Ada recounted her experience of losing six siblings to the hands of death. The late actress who was not the last child of her parents disclosed that she lost all 3 of her brothers and 3 sisters. She went on to express her fear, saying that she was scared she would be the next, after the loss of her younger sister.

According to a recent Instagram post on Ada’s page, her mother is still very much alive.

6. She played the role of “Emu” in the ongoing series, “The Johnsons”

“The Johnsons” is a Tv series that started in 2012. The family drama/comedy tells the story of an average Nigerian family, their lifestyle, and hurdles.

Before her death, Ada played the role of Mrs. Emu Johnson, the mother of the family who is often criticized for not being formally educated. An episode of the series was released a few days ago with Ada still playing her comic role.

7. She died on July 17, 2022

Last on the list of 7 things to know about Ada Ameh! Ada’s death came as a shock to many as she posted a video of herself having a good time a few hours before on Instagram.

She is said to have died in Warri, Delta State after being rushed to a hospital in the area.

Ada will be greatly missed!
