The 2022 edition of the prestigious Grammy awards has been postponed indefinitely due to the rising cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant in several parts of the world

The Recording Academy who organizes the yearly awards broke the news in a statement released via its website on Wednesday.

According to the statement, holding this year’s edition of the annual awards on January 31 as planned “simply contains too many risks.”

The organisers said a new date for the awards would be announced in due course, adding that the health and safety of its officials will always remain a top priority.

“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th annual Grammy awards Show,” it read.

“The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.

“Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”

Recall that the Nigerian Singer, Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid  bagged two Grammy nominations alongside Burna Boy and Femi Kuti.

Wizkid’s Essence featuring Tems was nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ category, and the Made In Lagos album was nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ category. The same category Burna Boy won 2021.

Burna Boy was nominated alongside Angelique Kidjo for the track “Do Yourself”, He was also nominated in the main category for his contribution to Justin Beiber Justice Album.

Femi Kuti was also nominated in the ‘Best Global Music Performance’ for his song ‘Pa Pa Pa’ and he was nominated alongside Made Kuti in the ‘Best Global Music Album’ for their album ‘Legacy +’

The 2022 Grammys’ main event was supposed to air on January 31, 2022, at 8 pm ET/5 pm PT on the CBS Television Network. But has stated earlier has be postponed indefinitely
