In contrast to his former club Juventus, Zinedine Zidane, according to Thierry Henry, is holding out to manage France’s national team.
Massimiliano Allegri is under increasing pressure after Juventus’ first Champions League group-stage exit in nine years on Tuesday night. Some are calling for Zidane to take over because the Italian manager is drastically underwhelming and the Old Lady is currently seventh in Serie A. Contrary to what Henry believes, his former France teammate may be holding out for a position with the national team.
Henry said on CBS Sports following Juventus’ Champions League exit: “Zizou (Zidane) won the Champions League, Zizou proved that he can go all the way” (to a club like Juventus). He’s shown that he can triumph at a major club. I won’t be going there (if Zidane could win at Juventus). I believe he is anticipating the national team (France). I won’t go there, for that reason.
“I don’t think he will go there (Juventus). I think he is waiting for one thing and one thing only. The national team. He won three Champions Leagues with Real Madrid. Why are you going to bother with other clubs when you can have the national team? I wouldn’t. He’s been linked to a lot of clubs and it never happened. I don’t think Zizou would want to do it but this is me talking. Maybe he does want to do it. But I can see him waiting for the national team and it would make total sense.”
After departing Real Madrid in May 2021, Zidane recently hinted that he was close to returning to management, but he withheld any further information. He told reporters they would have to wait and see what would happen, adding that he would return to management “soon.”
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ZIDANE NEXT? We won’t have to wait too long to see Zidane on the sidelines again, ideally, but only time will tell where he ends up, with Paris Saint-Germain also being mentioned as a possible option.
