Early Life and Education
Willie Obiano was born in Aguleri, Anambra State, Eastern Nigeria. In 1979, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Lagos, as well as a master’s degree in business administration from the same institution. Governor Obiano attended Holy Trinity School in Onitsha before enrolling in Christ the King College (CKC) in Onitsha for secondary school. In 1979, he earned his first degree in accounting from the University of Lagos. He earned a second degree in 1993 after completing an MBA programme in Marketing at the same university. Willie Obiano is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and serves as the Patron of the ICAN Lagos chapter. He is also a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Career
Governor Obiano began his financial career in 1981 with the First Bank of Nigeria before leaving to work as an accountant for Chevron Oil Nigeria Plc, where he progressed to the rank of Chief Internal Auditor. He was one of the auditors who audited the Texaco Refinery in Rotterdam, Netherlands, in 1989. He joined Fidelity Bank in 1991 as Deputy Manager and head of the Audit unit, rising to the post of executive director in October 2003.
Gov Obiano led many Groups and Divisions from 1991 to 2002, including Inspection and Audit, Division Head of Eastern Market, Division Head of Commercial and Consumer Banking, and non-banking financial organisations. During his banking career, he distinguished himself and was named Distinguished Banker of the Year in 2012. Around this time, Willie Obiano left his banking position to pursue a career in politics. Then, in November 2013, he stood for governor of Anambra State on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He was elected and inaugurated on March 17, 2014, to succeed Peter Obi, the incumbent governor at the time. Later that year, in November 2017, Gov. Obiano ran for re-election as an incumbent and was re-elected.

The governor is happily married to Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Veronica Obiano. They have been married for 33 years and have two children together.

Governor Obiano resolved to contribute his monthly salary to the underprivileged in his state and has remained committed to that goal to this day. He accomplishes this by donating his salary to homeless shelters. Also, his wife operates a nonprofit called Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAFE), to which the governor also donates his salary.

Governor Obiano did not stop there; he transformed urban transportation by instituting a sophisticated mass transit system that serves Anambra State’s three major cities. He introduced 40 deluxe buses as well as 200 brand-new taxis. Of course, he developed new highways while maintaining existing ones to improve mobility in the state.
