Why I supported Akpabio to become Senate President - Wike

Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, recently explained why he supported Godswill Akpabio to become the 10th Senate President of the National Assembly. Wike referred to Akpabio as a loyal supporter who had backed him during his own campaigns in 2014 and 2015, going so far as to donate N200 million towards his election efforts. Speaking at a special Thanksgiving service organized by his family in Obio-Akpor, Wike expressed gratitude for Akpabio’s past support and stated that he believed in returning the favor.

Akpabio, in response to Wike’s claim, clarified that the N200 million he contributed in 2015 did not come from the state funds of Akwa Ibom, where he served as governor. He explained that the money was sourced from his personal savings from his previous role as a managing director in the telecommunications sector before entering politics.
