Biography
Waje (Aituaje Iruobe) was born on the 1st of September 1980 in Akure, Ondo State. She grew up in Benin City following her parent’s relocation. Unfortunately, her parents got divorced when she was still young and she had to face the challenges that came from their separation while growing up.
Waje joined the choir in her church while growing up, which means, she ventured into music early enough. It was during this period she sang and caught the attention of Late Benson Idahosa who was quite impressed by her and rewarded her by sponsoring her through her secondary education.
However, Waje got pregnant when she was writing her final year secondary certificate examinations but she didn’t inform her mother until the pregnancy was 5 months. In an interview, she revealed that, during her secondary school education, she got into a relationship and felt that s*x was good enough to prove her love. She admitted she was naive at the time and it led her into getting pregnant. Waje said her pastor had sent for her and asked for her to tell him the truth which she did. But unfortunately, she was banned from singing in the church choir but was still allowed into church services.
Waje later relocated to Nsukka to attend the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and later graduated with a degree in social work. During her stay in the school, she performed at school concerts and fellowships.
Career
In 2007, Waje launched her music career while still a student. She started by going for free shows and gigs. And in 2008, she was featured on the P-Square hit track, Do Me and she also participated in Advanced Warning; a reality tv show. The tv show was organised by MTV Base South Africa and Zain Nigeria, Waje emerged the runner-up at the end of the show.
In 2010, 360nobs.com did a special spotlight on Waje with the emphasis, Words aren’t just enough… I’m Speechless. And in 2013, she released her self-titled debut studio album, Words aren’t enough.
She further had several collaborations with several star artists such as Dencia, MI, and so on. Waje has also shared the stage with artists such as Wyclef Jean in South Africa and P-Square.
In 2014, Waje made her acting debut in the film, Tunnel alongside Femi Jacobs, Patrick Doyle, Nse Ikpe-Etim, and Lepacious Bose. Waje was also featured on Strong Girl, the theme song for One‘s Poverty is Sexist Campaign, and also joined Bono for the Lagos campaign in 2015.
In 2016, Waje was announced as one of the judges on The Voice Nigeria alongside 2face, Timi Dakolo, and Patoranking.

2019
Waje and Omawumi launched Hermanes Media in 2019, it is a media company that specializes in film and TV production, adverts, content curation, brand event activation, and creative digital marketing. Also in the same year, Waje revealed her intentions to professionally quit music, stating the reasons for lack of support for her music. Later that year, she was featured in the Somkele Idhalama-produced movie, She is. Where they worked other to record the movie’s soundtrack.
Come December 2019, she teamed up with Zoro to release a single titled Ngwa following her earlier single, Udue where she featured Johnny Drille.

Personal Life
Waje is a single mother of one; her daughter’s name is Emerald Iruobe. In an interview, Waje revealed she has been single ever since the relationship she had back in secondary school which led to the birth of her daughter. The prolific singer, however, has not shown interest or given any hint on having a husband soon. Waje’s sister, Amaka Iruobe is an actress who had bit parts in the popular soap opera, Tinsel and the movie, First Cut.
Waje worked with the youths of her community through the Waje’s Safe House organisation. She teams up with NGOs to help with her projects. The first project was the Mental and Environmental Development Initiative for Children, assisting the Project HELP(help Educate the Less Privileged). This project was to help raise funds for less privileged children to continue their studies in the school in Mak0ko.
She also collaborated alongside other star artists with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to stand against electoral manipulation, vote-buying, violence, and thuggery.
