In Marlborough, Massachusetts, on September 25, 1969, Bill Simmons was born. He authored sports pieces for the college newspaper while he was a student at College of the Holy Cross. From Boston University, he then obtained a master’s degree in print journalism.

After graduating from graduate school, Bill worked odd jobs for eight years until getting a job with ESPN. He reported on high school sports and worked for the Boston Herald throughout those eight years. He launched the website BostonSportsGuy.com in 1997. To make ends meet, he worked as a waiter and a bartender. His website had a daily average of 45,000 visitors and 10,000 readers by 2001.
