A comprehensive list of top notable Hausa leaders in the history of Nigeria
The Fulani-Hausa ethnic group is the largest ethnic group in Nigeria and sub-Saharan Africa. The Hausa-Fulani’s are a diverse but culturally homogeneous people, the history of their relationship could be traced to the 1790s Usman dan Fodio (1754–1817), a Fulani man who lived in the northern Hausa state of Gobir (northeast of Sokoto) quarreled with its rulers. Accusing the Hausa kings of being little more than pagans, he encouraged the Hausa people to revolt. Joined both by Hausa commoners and by Fulani pastoralists alike, the jihad, or holy war, swept through Hausaland.
However, since the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorate to form Nigeria in 1914, the region has been produced notable leaders in different capacities that are responsible for our freedom and development today.
