1. ATHLETE AND TEAM MEMBERS

If you are a coach or a trainer or an athlete, then you do not need a work permit to work in Canada.

However, spouses of athletes would require a work permit to get into Canada.

2. MILITARY PERSONNEL

There is a work permit exemption for Military personnel who have received an order to come to Canada.

Military attaches who are mostly employed by diplomatic missions would need a work permit to work in Canada.

3. PUBLIC SPEAKERS

This includes commercial or guest speakers and seminar leaders for events and the events do not usually last more than five days but if you are a commercial speaker that was invited to provide training services, you would need to get a work permit before you can enter Canada.

4. A CLERGY

Someone whose work is to preach or to preside over at religious gatherings do not need a work permit to gain entry into Canada.

However, these individuals would need to provide;

  • The validity of their offer of religious employment
  • The ability of the clergyman to handle clerical duties for a congregation of the religious group
  • The authenticity of the religious group that is offering the job

5. EVALUATORS AND EXAMINERS

Academicians, professors, and researchers who want to review student’s work, evaluate research papers and academic programs, and  theses would be granted entry into Canada without a work permit

6. WITNESSES AND INVESTIGATORS

If you are going to Canada to serve as an expert witness in front of a tribunal or a court of law and if it’s to organize surveys that will be used as evidence, then you don’t require a work permit.

7. AVIATION INSPECTORS

If you are going to Canada to work on commercial international flights, then you don’t need to obtain a work permit but you must be able to provide certain documents that can confirm your role either as a flight operator or a cabin safety inspector.

8. CONVENTION ORGANIZERS

If you are organizing a convention or a conference, then you do not need a work permit but the conference must be centered around; trade shows or exhibitions, consumer shows, corporate meetings, or association meetings.

This work permit does not apply to those who are providing decorating services, installation, and dismantling services.

If you want to organize an event for a business that is based or has a branch in Canada will need to get a work permit for that.
