1. No plans to pardon Adedoyin, subvert death sentence – Gov Adeleke
The Osun State Government has stated that it is unaware of any plans to subvert the death sentence on Dr Rahman Adedoyin.
Describing the rumour making the rounds on social media as false, the state government, through a statement by the governor’s Spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Monday in Osogbo, also affirmed that it has no plan to pardon Adedoyin.
Rasheed also revealed that Governor Ademola Adeleke is not a friend or partner of the owner of Oduduwa University and maintained that he did not interfere or intervene in the arraignment, hearing and sentencing of the accused.
2. BET Awards 2023: Burna Boy, and Tems win categories, Davido performs hit songs
The 2023 BET Awards were handed out Sunday night, with Afrobeats stars Burna Boy and Tems picking up awards in their different categories.
Burna Boy edged out other nominees from Brazil, the UK, South Africa, France and fellow Nigerian act Ayra Starr to win the ‘Best International Act’ award while Tems won for best collaboration with her feature on Futures hit song ‘Wait For U’.
The show kicked off with a slew of performers, including opener Lil Uzi Vert as well as Afrobeats star Davido and hip-hop pioneers The Sugarhill Gang. Davido performed hit songs from his latest album including ‘Unavailable’, and ‘Feel’. The audience at the event was thrilled by the performance with international celebrities seen dancing along to the song with the viral dance steps.
3. Dollar to Naira Exchange Rate
According to RNN reports, currency dealers in Abuja Zone 4 market reported that a dollar was purchased at ₦ 778 Naira and sold at ₦768 Naira today, compared to the ₦765 it traded yesterday.
Additionally, the Euro/Naira, which is the second most traded currency, was bought and sold on the black market at a rate of ₦840 and ₦825, respectively. At the same time, the buy rate for the pound to the naira is ₦ 990 while the sell rate on the black market is ₦975.
4. Shettima decorates the new acting Customs chief, Adeniyi
Vice President Kashim Shettima, on Monday, decorated the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Adeniyi’s decoration comes one week after he was named the Acting Customs Chief by President Bola Tinubu on Monday, June 19, 2023, alongside other new security helmsmen.

Bill Gates, the popular American billionaire and co-chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has described his African counterpart Aliko Dangote as being his “invaluable partner”
According to him, Dangote has been instrumental to his foundation for many years adding that they have a lot in common in terms of working together “on issues like malnutrition, food fortification, and polio” in Nigeria.
His words; “I’ve been lucky to call Aliko Dangote a friend for many years. We have a ton in common: Both of us started successful businesses, and then, for our second acts in life, we chose to start foundations aimed at improving health and education.”
6. Court Remands Skit Maker, Trinity Guy in Prison over Dangerous Prank
A Magistrate Court situated at Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State capital, has ordered the remand of skit maker, Abdullahi Maruff Adisa, popularly known as Trinity Guy, in prison over an allegation of sexualising minor in his viral skit video.
Recall that the Nigerian Police, through Force Public Relation Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, called for the arrest of Trinityguy following a viral video of his dangerous pranks.
A statement by the Oyo State Police Command on Friday disclosed that the skit maker and parent of the little girl in the viral video were quizzed by the Command and would appear in court Monday (today)
7. Eid-el-Kabir: Ram Sellers Record Low Patronage
Barely three days to Sallah, ram sellers in Birnin Kebbi have complained of low patronage as buyers lament increased prices. A market survey conducted by the News Agency of Nigeria in the state capital shows that despite the fact that the market is moving at a snail’s speed, yet prices of animals are on the high side.
A check at the animal market (Kara) in Birnin Kebbi indicates that the rate of buying and selling was very low compared to previous years. Speaking in an interview with NAN, a representative of the Animal Sellers’ Association Chairman, Malam Aliyu Haido said the market was not moving as expected, attributing it to a lack of money in the hands of people.
