The top 10 most competitive polytechnics/monotechnics in Nigeria for the year 2020 has been published by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The list of the most competitive Polytechnics in Nigeria for the year 2020 has been published by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

The metrics for determining this is based on the number of the 2020 UTME applicants that chose the institutions has their first choice.

These statistics were issued during the presentation at the 2020 Policy meeting organised by JAMB on Tuesday.

Kaduna Polytechnic emerged as the most competitive Polytechnic for the year 2020 with 5,014 applicants who chose the institution as their first choice.

Meanwhile, Federal Polytechnic, Offa and Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro were not far behind as they had with 3,469 and 3293 applicants respectively.

Surprisingly, Ramat Polytechnic in Maiduguri, Borno state made the list as the fourth most competitive polytechnic with 2,758 applicants.

Yaba College of Technology made the 5th position and happens to the only monotechnic to emerge on the list.

Others include Kwara State Polytechnic — 2,543; Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria — 2,032; Federal Polytechnic, Ede — 2,004; Federal Polytechnic, Nekede — 1,895; and The Polytechnic, Ibadan with 1,836 applicants.

The outrageous low number does not come as a surprise or shocked as any average Nigeria would always desire to study in a university.

This perception is sparked by the belief that a university graduate is superior to a polytechnic graduate, which may not be so

The dichotomy that exists between the university degree and polytechnic diploma also contributes to this perception in one way or the other.
