It is the music industry ’s standard record chart in the United States. Its ranking is based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. As of February 2018, over 27,000 songs have graced the Billboard Hot 100, many of which did not spend more than a week on the chart, they however a few songs who have been able dominate the chart for even more than a year. In appreciation of those evergreen tunes, Here are the top 10 longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot  100.

10. Party Rock Anthem – LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock (68 Weeks)

“Party Rock Anthem”  by the American music duo LMFAO is the 10th  longest charting song on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent a total of 68 weeks.  The Song was released as the first single from LMAFO’s second album Sorry for Party Rocking in 2011. It featured British singer Lauren Bennett and American music producer GoonRock.

The song went to number one in the late summer of 2011 in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, New Zealand, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. It is the best-selling single of all time in Australia and the third best-selling digital song in the history of the United States.

9. Counting Stars – OneRepublic (68 Weeks)

With a total tally of 68 weeks, One Republic’s “Counting Stars” takes ninth place among the longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was released as the second single for the band’s third studio album, Native on June 14, 2013. It went on to be one of the band’s most successful singles, reaching number one in many countries including Canada and the United Kingdom, number two in the United States, and top ten in 20 countries.

“Counting Stars” is presently one of the best-selling digital singles in the  United States, where it has received diamond certification for having sales of over 10 million copies.  It has also received a diamond certification in Canada and platinum in 10 Other countries including the United Kingdom and Australia. As of July 2022, the video has received over 3.6 billion views on YouTube and is one of the most-watched videos of all time on the site.

8. How Do I Live –  LeAnn Rimes (69 Weeks)

How Do I Live by  LeAnn Rimes with a total tally of 68 weeks, takes up the eighth place among the longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100. The song, written by Diane Warren was released on May 23, 1997. It was once the longest charting song on the Billboard hot 100 where it peaked at no. 2  and on the UK Singles Chart where it spent 34 weeks peaking at no. 7

“How do I live” was certified 3× Platinum by the RIAA for shipments of 3 million copies in the United States, the highest certified country single of that time, to be surpassed 12 years later by “Love Story” by Taylor Swift, which has been certified 8× Platinum. It was also the 6th best selling single of 1998.

7. Save Your Tears – The Weeknd & Ariana Grande (69 Weeks)

The Weeknd and Ariana Grande’s third collaboration “Save Your Tear” (Remix) takes the seven spot among the longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent a total of 69 weeks on the chart. The song was released, with an accompanying animated music video on 22, April  2021, as the second remix of the original song. It peaked at number one in 18 countries while going top 10 in 33 others.

“Save Your Tears”  was noted as the best-performing global single of 2021, earning 2.15 billion subscription stream equivalents globally, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). The song has earned Diamond certifications in France and Canada. It has also received 12 Platinum certifications in 12 other countries including the United Kingdom and the United States.

6. I’m Yours – Jason Mraz (76 Weeks)

“I’m Yours” by  Jason Mraz, with a total tally of 76 weeks, takes sixth place among the longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was released in 2008 as the first single from Jason Mraz’s third studio album “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things” and became a  huge commercial success in the United States.

The song peaked at number 6 on the Billboard Hot 100; and spent 76 weeks on the chart, breaking the record for the longest charting song on the chart, previously held by LeAnn Rimes’ song “How Do I Live”.  I’m Yours is presenting one of the best-selling digital songs in the history of the United States, with a diamond certification for sales of over 10 million copies in the country.

English-Albanian singer Dua Lipa makes the list with her 2020 global hit song Levitating. The song was released on the 1st of October 2020 as one of the songs in her second studio album, Future Nostalgia (2020). It peaked at number five on the UK Singles Chart and number two on the US Billboard Hot 100, where it spent 77 weeks placing it 5th among the longest charting songs in the history of the chart.

“Levitating’ is also the longest-charting song by a female artist on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also reached number two on the Billboard Global 200 chart and became #1 on the 2021 year-end chart. The song was awarded  Diamond certifications in France, Brazil, and Canada. It also earned Platinum certifications in the United Kingdom, the United States, and 9 other countries including Australia and Germany.

4. Sail – AWOLNATION (79 Weeks)

“Sail” by the American rock band, AWOLNATION, takes fourth place among the longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was released as a single on November 8, 2010. It was first featured on the band’s debut extended play, Back from Earth (2010), and was later featured on their debut album, Megalithic Symphony (2011).

Sail”  debuted at number 89 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in September 2011, spending 20 weeks on the chart before dropping out. It re-entered the chart a year later, spending a cumulative 79 weeks and reaching a new peak of number 17.  It remains to date the band’s most commercially successful song to date.

3. Radioactive – Imagine Dragons (87 Weeks)

Imagine Dragons’ global hit song “Radioactive” takes second place among the longest-charting songs on the Billboard Hot 100, where it spent 87 weeks. The song was released on the 29th of October 2012, as one of the songs on the band’s major-label debut EP Continued Silence. It also appeared on the band’s debut studio album, Night Visions (2012), as the opening track. It is Imagine Dragons’ most successful single to date.

The song peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and became the band’s first top 10 single. It spent a total of 87 weeks on the chart, becoming the longest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100 a record it held for 7 years. “Radioactive reached number one in Sweden and in the top 20 in several countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.  It has since been certified Diamond in the US, and platinum in many other countries making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.

2. Blinding Lights – The Weeknd (90 Weeks)

The Weeknd makes another appearance again, this time with his 2020 global smash hit, Blinding Lights, which spent a total of 90 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100, taking second place among the longest-charting songs on the chart. The song was released on November 29, 2019,  as the second single from the Weeknd’s fourth studio album, After Hours. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks and went on to set new records as the longest-charting song by a solo artist on the Hot 100 of all time.

The song also peaked at number one on the Canadian Hot 100, giving the Weeknd his fifth number-one hit on the chart. It topped the record charts in the United Kingdom and 36 other countries.  It was the best-performing global single of 2020, earning 2.72 billion subscription stream equivalents globally, according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI). On November 23, 2021, it was ranked as the greatest Hot 100 song in Billboard history. It is also the most streamed song of all time on Spotify.

1. Heat Waves – Glass Animals (91 Weeks)

Heat Waves by the experimental rock band Glass Animals is the longest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was released as a single from the band’s studio album Dreamland on 29 June 2020. It reached number one in Australia, Canada, Lithuania, Switzerland and the United States, where  it spent 5 weeks at the top and 91 weeks on the whole chart, becoming the longest charting song on the Hot 100 of all time

It also peaked number five on the UK Singles Chart and was a top-five hit in several other European countries.  As of  September 2022, the song had accumulated more than two billion streams on Spotify. It has also been awarded diamond certifications in France, Canada and Germnany, and platinum certification in several part of the thglobe including the United States and the United Kingdom .

Conclusion

With a total tally of 91 week , Animal Glass ‘s Heat Waves  is the longest-charting song on the Billboard Hot 100. Followed closely by the Weeknd’s Blinding Light, which spent 90 Weeks on the chart. Other notable mentions include Imagine Dragons’ global hit song “Radioactive”,  Jason Mraz’s “I’m Yours” and LeAnn Rimes’s How Do I Live by, all of which were once the  longest  charting song  in the history of the chart.
