Tinubu Administration Commits to Completing Abandoned Projects - Minister
The Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Prof. Joseph Utsev, has reaffirmed the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to completing all abandoned and inherited projects.
“This administration is not leaving any stone unturned. All projects abandoned will be completed.” He said.
During an inspection tour of the Ogbese Multi-purpose Dam in Ekiti State, Utsev emphasized the government’s dedication to finishing projects that benefit citizens.
The Ogbese Dam, which began construction in 2009 but stalled due to funding issues, will provide water, generate hydro-power, and support irrigation. “The major challenge has been funding. That was why immediately after President Tinubu came on board last year, he approved funds.”
With the approved funds, materials for the turbines have been supplied and are on site.
Upon completion, the dam will generate 4 megawatts of electricity, enhance irrigation, boost agriculture, and supply water. “The aim of this dam is, when completed, to serve the environment.”
While about 70% of the project is finished, the installation of the hydro-power component and the second phase, including water supply and irrigation, will be completed soon.
The minister highlighted the project’s benefits, including job creation for the youth and increased food production.
“We have successfully commissioned about three dams… We are also undertaking some irrigation projects around the country.”
The ministry’s Director of Dams, Ali Dallah, noted that the available funds have been utilized to achieve 70% progress, and the dam will provide electricity and water supply to 450,000 people.
The Project Contractor, Mr. Fahd Jammal, expressed readiness to complete the job when funds are made available.
The contract for the dam’s construction was awarded in 2009 to alleviate poverty and positively impact citizens’ lives.
