1. Signed 2023 Electricity Bill Into Law

During the specified timeframe, President Tinubu signed the 2023 Electricity Act into law to dismantle monopolistic control over electricity generation, transmission, and distribution at the national level. This legislative move grants authority to state governments, corporations, and individuals to generate, distribute, and transmit electricity, thus decentralizing the power sector.

However, President Tinubu signed the Nigeria Data Protection Bill 2023, The newly enacted legislation establishes a legal framework for safeguarding personal information and promoting data protection practices in Nigeria. The bill which has now become an Act.

2. Removal Of Fuel Subsidy

President Tinubu took the bold step of eliminating the fuel subsidy, a longstanding policy notorious for fostering corruption, and inefficiency, and imposing significant fiscal strain on the government for many years. This subsidy, costing the government over N1 trillion annually, primarily benefited the affluent and smugglers, rather than effectively aiding the general populace. With its removal, resources previously allocated to the subsidy are now available for allocation to vital sectors like infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social welfare programs.

Moreover, this move is expected to stimulate private investment in the downstream sector of the oil industry. However, as a consequence of the subsidy’s abolition, the price of fuel has surged, more than doubling from an average of about N185/liter to around N495/liter, varying depending on the location of purchase. 3. Suspension Of The CBN Governor[Emefiele]

Most people have termed the move as the most striking move president on Friday, suspended Godwin Emefiele as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor. Emefiele’s suspension is reportedly linked to various concerns, notably his management of the naira redesign policy, an unsuccessful presidential campaign, and alleged mishandling of policies such as mismanagement of foreign exchange reserves and ineffective monetary strategies.

The decision to suspend Emefiele has raised questions about the extent of the Central Bank Act’s provisions regarding the suspension of the CBN Governor during ongoing investigations, thereby prompting concerns regarding the central bank’s independence. Emefiele was directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) [Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi], who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and the reforms.

4. Charged Representatives Of Major Oil Marketers

In meeting up with the challenges of fuel subsidy removal, the president met with representatives of major oil marketers in Nigeria, charging them to work with his government to be able to meet the needs and demands of Nigerians. Oil Marketers Association announced their intention to donate between fifty to a hundred ’50-seater’ mass transit buses to help the masses, this opinion was made as a result of a meeting held with the president.

5. Appointment Of The Cheif Of Staff

Part of the major Achievement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the appointment of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila as Chief of Staff,  In a meeting with progressive governors, the president also appointed Sen. Ibrahim Hassan Hadejia, a former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, as Deputy Chief of Staff.

This move many saw as a very strategic one that set the tone for what his cabinet would look like and the caliber of persons Tinubu would be working with to set Nigeria back on track.

6. Inauguration Of The Economic Council

On June 14th, 2023, President Tinubu inauguratednew economic council to advise him on economic policies and reforms, coinciding with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s announcement of the unification of the forex market, merging all segments into a single window. The council, typically consisting of 36 state governors, the CBN governor, and other officials, aims to foster collaboration among governments at all levels. 7. Unification Of The Naira

President Tinubu recently announced a significant policy change, transitioning from the previous multiple exchange rate system to a unified exchange rate regime. This decision marks a departure from the approach adopted during the administration of former President Buhari and is overseen by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The shift aims to promote transparency, mitigate distortions, and instill confidence in the naira. Under this new system, the exchange rate is determined by market dynamics, with the CBN intervening solely to mitigate excessive volatility, thereby aligning with market forces.

8 . Met With The Service Chiefs And NSA

Security has been a very significant need for the country especially if the economy is to be restored to a level of stability for the citizens. Bearing this in mind, one of the first tasks executed by the president was to meet with the Service Chiefs and the National Security Adviser.

At the meeting, Tinubu tasked security and intelligence agencies in the country with the importance of information and intelligence sharing, to obliterate counter-productivity of resources in the fight against terrorism. Highlighting the importance of backing their efforts with knowledge, the president underscored that to achieve economic revival, prosperity, and development, security should be of utmost priority.

9. Suspension Of EFCC Chair

On June 14, 2023, President Tinubu approved the removal of the chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, who had been appointed by former President Buhari in February 2021. He was accused of being comprised, ineffective, and partisan in his fight against corruption. he was then directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the director, of operation in the commission. However, In 2021, Mr Bawa took over the helms of affairs at the commission under similar circumstances when his predecessor, Ibrahim Magu, was suspended from office by then-President Muhammadu Buhari, over allegations of corruption. Mr Bawa became the second major appointee of former President Muhammadu Buhari to be suspended by President Tinubu.

10. Negotiated with JOHESU

The last on the list of Major Achievements Of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s negotiation with JOHESU, After days of industrial action, the Health Workers’ Union, operating under the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU), had been persistently on strike. However, in a significant turn of events, the union opted to suspend its strike, which had lasted for 12 days, after a constructive meeting with the president.

Obinna Ogbonna, the National vice-president of JOHESU, conveyed to reporters that the decision to suspend the strike stemmed from the substantial progress achieved during discussions with President Bola Tinubu. Following their deliberations with the president, the health workers promptly convened a meeting and collectively resolved to cease the strike action. Additionally, they outlined a 21-day timeframe within which they expected the government to address their concerns.
