Portable Before Zazu Zeh
The rise of Portable in the Nigeria Music Industry is usually a grass-to-gravel tale. The rapper was born in Ogun State and raised with his family in Abeokuta before relocating to Sango-Ota, an Ogun State city next to Lagos State.
A blogger named Don Blue accidentally made Portable famous by using the song “Zazu Zeh” as the background music for one of his posts. This finally caught the attention of well-known Nigerian artist Olamide.
Portable remarked, “I met Don Blue, an online blogger,” in an interview with BoomPlay about how he first met Olamide. He said “I haven’t laid eyes on him. I was appreciative when he reposted my music.
“I hurried to Lekki to meet Baddo after Don Blue called me a short while later to tell me that Baddo wanted to meet me,” he stated.
But after including Olamide and Nigerian dancer Poco Lee on his street hit “Zazu Zeh,” Portable shot to fame.
The Rise Of Portable In The Nigeria Music Industry
Portable has developed into a highly sought-after artist from being a street singer. Portable performed on AY’s show on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, where the publicity-loving Nigerian socialite E-Money handed him bundles of naira. It was the first time he had been seen in public with the singer’s newest sponsor, E-Money, following the dismissal of his previous manager, Kogbagidi, by Portable.
Now that he’s been sighted with huge celebrities like Wizkid, Timaya, Burna Boy, and Olamide, Portable hangs with the big boys in the music industry.
In less than three months after his rise to fame, the renowned head of the Zeh nation movement has also eaten and wined with royalty.
In 2022, Portable paid a visit to Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ile Ife, at his palace. Beyond meeting famous people and royalty, the Zazu Zeh crooner has expanded abroad. E-Money, Portable’s sponsor, sent the singer on his first tour in the United Kingdom.
Controversies
Hardly a week has gone by since December 2021, the month when Portable first became well-known without him making headlines for all the wrong reasons. A few of his more well-known disputes are listed here.
Controversy with Poco Lee
It all began when renowned Nigerian singer Olamide, who had collaborated with well-known dancer Poco Lee and portable musician Portable on the smash song Zazu Zeh, knocked on his home.
Soon after the song became popular, Poco Lee was accused by Nigerian Grammy winner Wizkid of stealing money from him after his performance with Olamide at the Livespot X Festival. Poco Lee was confronted by Portable in a series of videos that went viral on social media.
His angry reaction disclosed that Poco Lee took away the remaining $2400, leaving him with only $600.Poco Lee has not yet responded to the remark, but Nigerians have responded to the video in a variety of ways on social media.
Kogbagidi, Portable’s producer, was not pleased with his outburst and decided to walk Portable out of the record label.
Later, Portable apologized to his promoter out of regret. Olamide, Slimcase, and Yomi Fabiyi joined him at the same moment and expressed their regret on the singer’s behalf to music promoter Kogbagidi.
Portable vs DJ Chicken
The Ogun State Police Command gave Portable 48 hours on June 20, 2022, to report to the closest police station or face arrest.
After his former disc jockey, DJ Chicken filed an assault lawsuit against him, he was called in. The DJ was being attacked by the musician and his goons in an internet video that went viral. Speaking in Yoruba, Portable charged DJ Chicken with communicating with his spouse.
Ten days after receiving the police invitation, the “Zazoo” crooner brought himself in with his management and father. After being questioned, he was later freed on bond.
Portable fights at shows
Additionally, Portable makes news for his string of altercations with some supporters.
At a gig in Edo State, he supposedly got into a heated altercation with some Benin supporters.
A few hours after the altercation, Portable almost got into another altercation in a bar with a DJ. The way the DJ handled his song enraged and annoyed the artist.
Not long after that performance, Portable was seen defying a few police officers who tried to arrest him in real-time on camera.
‘One Million Boys’ Saga!
In July 2022, Portable found himself embroiled in yet another controversy when he claimed to have founded the infamous armed robbery gangs “One Million Boys” and “Ajah Boys” in Lagos State.
“Ajah Boys, One Million Boys—are they familiar to you? I put them in place. In a video that went viral, he added, “Go ask Sammy Larry.”
As a result, he lost his nomination for Rookie of the Year and Best Street Artist from the Headies Awards organizers.
Because of his rash remarks, he came under the attention of the Lagos State Police Command, which promised to launch a preliminary inquiry into his allegations of being a founding member of terror organizations.
Controversy with Small Doctor
After alleging that the “Penalty” crooner had once set him up, Portable started a rivalry with his colleague Adekunle Temitope, also known as Small Doctor, in December 2022.
In an attempt to portray himself as his savior, Portable claimed during an Instagram live session that Small Doctor had previously ordered goons to assault him.
He attacked Small Doctor for trying to use him to get notoriety and for never helping up-and-coming musicians. Later, Portable and Small Doctor patched things up thanks to prominent socialite Abel Egbarin’s influence.
Portable Blast Carte Efe For sponsoring Youngi Duu Music
Portable has been in the news lately because of a fight with Youngi Duu, his former signee. He blasted the upcoming performer for securing a performance that would have cost N70,000.
During an Instagram live session, the Zazuu Zeh star lost it and vowed to confront Cater Efe if they ever crossed paths.
He observed that his adversaries were attempting to undermine him through his signee, Young Duu.
It makes sense since Young Duu was signed to Portable’s musical company Zeh Nation before their falling out. On his part, Carter Efe discovered Young Duu, gave him some advice, and helped him out monetarily and otherwise. As a result, the up-and-coming singer was able to release the much-awaited song.
Because of this, Portable, who is upset over the recent events, initiated a live session on his Instagram page a few hours ago to vent his rage. An enraged Portable said that mayhem would undoubtedly break out whenever he encounters Carter Efe, maybe leading to the two of them being taken into custody.
